Newbie gun dilema!

Hi, I am new to this forum, thanks for your input in advance. Sorry if I ask any daft questions: I used to (about 20 years ago) do a fair bit of pigeon/pheasant/partridge/rough shooting. I have been out for the occasional clay shoot so am not totally rusty. I have always wanted to get out on the marsh and this year have joined a club on the east coast. I have been along to a walk about of the marsh access areas etc and am due to go out with a club member. I am not expecting to shoot straight away, however, and here is the main question: I have a side by side J and W Tolley 12 which I will keep for inland shooting and a 1982 side by side 12 Spanish Gorosabel which I would like to use for the odd shot given the chance on the marsh. It is not proofed for steel. I have been told that Bismuth 3's would be best for Mallard etc. I have tried various gunshops and Bismuth may as well read...hen's teeth as these are rare also! What alternatives would you recommend please. I intend upgrading to a semi-auto at some stage but want to learn the ropes first, or should I trade the Gorosabel? Where do people buy/sell guns these days? it used to be in the back of the shooting times.Thanks.

If your gun is a 3" magnum in good condition and hasn't got full fixed chokes, I would try some steel. Bismuth 3 are a bit over the top for your average mallard.

+1 what chamber length/proof is gun?..foreshore ducks 32g 3/4s in steel...ask your guide what they typically use..and if in doubt with your gun ask your local gunsmith if gun up to it.....personally a good condition gun with right chamber length I would happily put non magnum steel shells through.

Thanks for your replies. I have just been to a gunsmith for his opinion on steel through my non magnum Gorosabel. He said that the right barrel would be OK but the left would probably end up with a blown choke. Chamber is typical 2 3/4 inch. Is there a readily available alternative to bismuth? The shops I have been to don't have any. Is there a regular supplier of Wildfowling cartridges or is it a case of looking around. Where would you all look for a good used or maybe new wildfowling gun? Thanks.
