marnold
I think I must be seriously unlucky - I have read nothing but good reviews on the CZ 527 Varmint and ordered myself one in .17 Hornet at the end of July, after a 6 week wait for the variation to be returned. Anyway rifle was delivered, nice wood and looked good! I bought a Swaro Z6 to go on top of it so my rfd mounted it using the CZ 527 weaver rail adapter base and some decent leupold mounts. Off I went to the range and couldn't wait to use it. First shot was miles to the right of the target. It was then that I found that the scope which had been mounted for me and bore sighted had run out of windage. Long story short, after faffing with the base and mounts etc etc, the rifle had to be replaced as the barrel had not been threaded into the receiver squarely! Damn! So, variation number 2 goes in whilst a new rifle is sent out to my rfd. Ticket arrives back after a 2 week wait and I go in to collect the new rifle which had been 'tested by the importer'. So, I pick it up, (wood not quite as nice before ) mount the scope (not overly happy with the base either at the moment - it's a bit high for my liking) etc. and I'll be damned!!! It won't load rounds from the magazine! On the odd occasion that it will, it scratches the brass something awful. So rifle #2 is going back. Has anyone else had any problems with CZ's 527 or other models? Am I just unlucky getting two lemons in a row?
markm
Same gun / calibre is fine for me. The only thing is I do think the magazine does not suit the hornet (22 or 17) case. To load you need one smooth back and forward action.

The 5th round never does though. I don't like slamming the bolt as hard as I have to in order to get a round to chamber. It is this 'slamming' that appears to be scratching the brass. Maybe just some rough edges that need tweaking... On the plus side, the test target is one hole!
Underdog
527's can often need fettling. Production guns sometimes do. The Mauser actioned extractor claw often needs a little fettle, make sure a rim of a round can slip into the bolt easy or you will have issues. Also make sure the magazine lips edges are smooth, they should not scratch the brass. Being a controlled feed design a little time is needed to get the rim slipping into the extractor from the mag nicely.

It did take a bit of effort to get the rim into the bolt face, past the extractor claw, exactly as you said. Hopefully an easy fix. I think the scratches on the brass may be caused by the round not lining up with the chamber properly when working the bolt, due to the problem above? I'm not sure but hopefully it can be cured! saddler
I saw a new in the box CZ at the importers Bolt serial number matched to the gun - right hand action, left hand bolt = work that one out!! CZ are nowhere near as good as the BRNO firm was - I'll happily own a BRNO, won't give house room to a CZ
markm
Also - The CZ centrefire rifles are now heading towards the price of much better products.
marnold
Slightly of the original topic....has anyone got any suggestions for mounts that I could use to fit the scope and remove the weaver base? They need to be for a 30mm tube and the scope is a 56mm objective - the bolt handle seems like it could be an issue if the mounts are too low... Underdog
Another good improvement to the claw extractor with rimmed cases is to make sure it can ride over the rim of an accidentally push fed round stuck in the chamber! By chamfering the front of the claw. Other than that it is a rod job.
Euget123
I had a few chambering problems aswell! Not just as bad as yours! Sorted them by fileing smooth the magazine lips and reducing the spring tension in the magazine! ET
kent
riflesmiths once made a good living refining the feed on mausers. The lipped rim of the hornet allied to the added bottle neck adaptation in the .17 will never make the smoothest feeding. Lockover lips have also caused many a curse
