1066
just experimenting with my homemade tumbler, can anyone recommend a good supplier of metal pins or the like. I think we need some photos here:) Is this a rotary tumbler or a magnetic turbo tumbler? If it's one of the new design with whizzing magnets you will need 400 series SS pins (magnetic). If it's a rotary it doesn't matter unless you plan to seperate the pins with a magnet after tumbling. I would try Spud. http://www.1967spud.com/ Here's my SS tumbler in action.: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bcyAkj-LzA8
Redgum
Looked at 1967spuds site but have found them cheaper on fleabay.
Redgum
Got some media, best price I could find was Proops Brothers Ltd, £20.40 for a kilo including postage. Just done my first batch and well please, much better than my ultra sonic, I will posts some picks, its a scaled down model which I had intended for a gentle clean of my Hornet cases but just done 20 x 308 cases for an hour and brilliant results. Redgum
initial testing is great, one hour of tumbling gets the brass very clean, much better than the ultra sonic. One thing that I have to be careful of and that is to give hornet cases a gentle de bur after cleaning, the firs batch had been full sized but not length trimmed so had to be de burred anyway but the media gives the case edge a sight knurled effect which could possibly have problems with bullet seating. This is only a problem with the hornet cases as the neck is so thin, on 243/308 brass its not a problem.
mick miller
Glad you've realised that steel media is the way forward. Sure, it's more tedious but the results speak for themselves.

Such as lemi shine etc. Edited September 25, 2015 by Carman06
Redgum
Are you using any adatives at all. Such as lemi shine etc. All I have added so far is just a drop of washing up liquid but will add some birchwood casey case cleaner next time as I have some, one of the most impressive things about the tumbler is how clean it gets the inside of the case and don't think the process is that tedious, just drying the media after words but that's just a matter of laying it out on some paper towel. mick miller
That's the tedious bit, that and thoroughly drying the cases. You can't just jump straight in and reload them as with dry media. Of course, you also don't have to sit there and pick bits of walnut husk out of the flash holes with a toothpick either! Brill thanks. I have made my tumbler just waiting for the pins to arrive and get going.
1066
, just drying the media after words but that's just a matter of laying it out on some paper towel. Why do you need to dry the media? I just leave my pins in water in the tumbling drum. Half a tea spoon of this added to your water and washing up liquid does the job perfectly. I also use rain water from the butt. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/like/151476236238?adgroupid=&hlpht=true&hlpv=2&rlsatarget=&adtype=pla&ff3=1&lpid=122&poi=&ul_noapp=true&limghlpsr=true&ff19=0&device=c&chn=ps&campaignid=&crdt=0&ff12=67&ff11=ICEP3.0.0-L&ff14=122&viphx=1&ops=true&ff13=80 Edited September 26, 2015 by 1066

Carman06
Just done first run in mine. Quite happy with doing it on a budget. Total spend £21 (£20.40 for pins, 60p for 4x rivets). All the rest recycled free parts.
