wyatt
Afternoon, thought I'd try my hand at making a few of these but seem to have failed misrably. I've seen the thread on here with the link to youtube and followed the instructions. I cut them down, removed the plastic from one and tapped out the primers. When I put them together and give them a blow, **** all comes out apart from the noise of the air.. what am I doing wrong please!?
r1steele
Join the two together with insulation tape wrapped around the middle and suck gently (only way I can describe it). You won't get a loud squeak but small mousy type squeak.
wyatt
Think I've got it, I was expecting it to do the actuall squeaking but you have to do that with your lips.. all a learning game!
Lord Geordie
I make mine out of two identical bases! One sweated off a cart, the other cut to size! Knock the primer out of both but don't crush the primer holes like the one in the pic! In total mine are about an inch from top to bottom! They work spot in and quite loud! Lord Geordie
Wyatt, The base on the left of the pic is squashed! Just pop out the primer but don't flatten the base out!
Bazooka Joe
Made a few a good while ago, see below. I found dishing the hole face inward on both ends improved the sound, but the holes the size they are empty your lungs quickly... I soldered a stainless washer over one of them, also made the hole half the size, it worked a lot better, you don't use half the air. You won't get the Tenderfield Squeal though, it'll be a more mellow softer sound. Also made some out of 410, 16g, 20g along with the 12g, sure the 12g worked the best, a lot depends on the distance between the two case heads, hence the dishing to compensate. malkiserow
Why not leave the primer in and drill a small hole in it?
subsonicnat
Never dished any of mine that deep, less than 1/16th". Worked well as Widgeon Calls, Hated The Fluff in my pocket, So used to whistle through my lips, that worked very well.
wyatt
Thanks for your replies again gents and your pics Joe!
Bazooka Joe
Sorted a photo of the soldered washer; I find it best sucking through the largest hole, & canting the 12g cases in your mouth, to me it gets a better high pitched sound.
