rodp
2.1/4 petrol will be adequate considering it's 1966 (Anglia / Cambridge era), if you want speed then don't buy it then slag it off. It could be worth £200 or it could be worth £10k. We have a chassis up rebuilt one that would fetch £££ thousands, (Not for sale, ever) Check it for rot, then check it again to find the bits the rose tinted specs missed
ferguson_tom
By sluggish what are you expecting from a 2 ton 1960s landrover with 70bhp...which after 50 years would probs be closer to 50bhp?? We have one thats been off the road for a few years now but before that she was a goodun. 55mph was comfortable 60 was possible and you normally get to that after a downhill slip road onto the dual carriageway. But even though they are slow they are probably one of the most fun things to drive and should always put a smile on your face every time you get in it, if it doesn't on the test drive then give up looking for a landrover IMO. Value all depends on condition and how rare they are a well sorted station wagon could be 15k whereas a standard 88" with MOT could be as little as 1.5K. TaxiDriver
What will it be worth  But probably, A bit more than you'd like to pay for it, But, Nowhere near what the vendor would like to receive for it.

On the nail Have to admit I have been looking at them for a while, especially 1966 as that was such a great year Edited November 22, 2015 by rimotu66
rodp
Oh, and by the way, it will be a 2A, not a
Underdog
Check for rot behind fuel tank on chassis. Also the front spring front hanger to chassis area. A drip from the transfer box is normal, a puddle not! Hopefully it will have a Weber carb fitted if petrol or it will use fuel like a Vulcan bomber! AULD YIN
Averaged 13 mpg on my 72 109 21/4 petrol ,sold it as the wife nagged the f### out of me for keeping it sitting on the driveway, not only lost a good motor but also had no NCB as it was insured as a historic vehicle (tax exempt) johnnie
Fuji Shooter
My S3 88" does about that but I don't care, makes me smile every time I get in it.
