An attempt at a roost shoot.

For most of yesterday the wind was blowing nicely so I planned a return to a roosting wood. My best in it this year was 10 pigeons.

Of course, as I left the house a squall of rain passed through and took the wind with it.

I took my old sxs blne for an outing (I'd been using it when I got the 10) but quickly switched to the B725.

Numbers wise, it was disappointing. But on every other level it was top notch. I had a great time just getting out.

I made this wee clip as a simple record of the flight.

Enjoyed that, I'm looking forward to some roost shooting in the new year..... Ted looked like he was having fun.... Also what a great choice of name for him

Tedly

Thanks for the comment. Like every gundog, outings with the gun are the highlights of Teds life.... mind you that doesn't just apply to dogs!

Can't imagine why you like that name !!!!!

Well done Big Al, a good vid I see you went prepared taking the 725 with you is that because your not as happy shooting the sxs.

Thanks.

Yes - I'd like to use the sxs more but the stock is very short. I put a slip on pad on it and found I was looking into the top lever rather than down the barrels. So on Friday I cut a very thin wedge and put it inside the slip on pad, thick bit to the bottom. I was trying it out yesterday.

It didn't work. You might be able to see from the first two shots taken yesterday it had the effect of sloping the pad allowing it to be pushed right out of my shoulder by the recoil. I had to effectively remount the gun for the second shot.

The 725 was taken to cover the eventuality of it not working. Just as well I took both. I would love to find a sxs I could use as I find them light and fast handling.

Nice video,

There birds were flighting were they not? When they drop their wings and pitch themselves "under carriage down" this is when I would call it "roost shooting",

Yep. You are right although it wasn't intended that way. I was in a roosting spot but they were obviously heading somewhere else.

Does it not qualify as roost shooting if I am shooting in a roost?

I suppose the only true bit of roost shooting was the one I shot out of the tree! The others were definitely flighting over the wood - some at quite a height too.

Love the avatar by the way....
