johnnytheboy
If it was something your planning to regularly y could purchase special chokes for steel that give duper tight patterns, kicks, paternmaster
Guest cookoff013
Fox? Steel? You only need to use steel shot on wildfowl or below high water mark. Use open chokes if need be.

wj939
No more than half for steel unless thr choke states it's for steel is the general advice. Because steel is harder than lead, it doesn't deform as much in the barrel and therefore doesn't require so much constriction to pattern effectively. Too much choke blows the pattern. And can be dangerous. Most figures state you should use 2 sizes larger for steel than its lead equivalent, I.e lead sixes use steel fours. kent
You know I shot and killed my longest shotgun fox on improved and lead number 1 bb steel I shouldn't use more than half because that's plenty tight enough for steel You can get tighter patterns with special steel chokes that are tighter but you can't stop the velocity loss
motty
I am currently using an extra full Briley in my Xtrema. Though I haven't patterned any shells through it yet, I have had good kills with steel 4s, and up to and including steel BBs.
