Any Rough Shooting / Pigeon Syndicates In Lancashire

Recommended Posts

Just wondering if anyone has knowledge of any rough shooting syndicates in or around Lancashire for using section 1 and 2 guns?

I looked at NPPC but it is air rifle and shotgun only. I also looked at Sweethill but there isn't any shooting allowed on Sundays (and their places are too far from me to go and have a shoot after work) so those 2 are out really.

I do have some land to shoot over (no crop though) but its limited due to horses being out and its always nice to have a change of scenery so with that in mind, are there any others in or around Lancashire? I'm really struggling to find reference to anything.

4 years ago I was exactly in the same place you are. Once you get in one shoot the world opens up to you providing your prepared to put in your share of the work.

If I can start by suggesting your aim for a lower starting point. You mention rifles but let's be honest who in their right mind would let a total stranger loose with a firearm? That sort of land takes time to get.

Don't know much about pigeon shooting but if your after a gun on a rough shoot I would start by looking to do some beating. Having a dog or 4x4 is always a big plus.

Booking a peg on couple of small days will help introduce you to others in the know. Take a bottle to pass round at brew time and buy a round In the pub after. Be the kind of person people want to invite back or to other places.

Very true its a struggle which is why I was going down the syndicate route although paying to shoot pests and vermin goes against the grain with me but hey if thats what it takes. Like I said earlier I do have land (about 120 acres and they wont let anyone on except for me so I cant even offer anyone a permission swap) and its very limited on what it offers (odd rabbit and fox here and there) and so I thought Id try to expand my reach to try to get some pigeon etc..

A 4x4 I have although my dog is at least year away from being taken out on a shoot. Only problem with beating is I'm very limited in what time I do have with working 6 days a week.

Don't get me wrong I wouldn't pay to shoot vermin. There are a few rough shoots around that offer low cost game shooting or try to find a half gun on a small/DIY shoot. These only cost £200 - £300 and you can usually do some of the vermin control & roost shooting as extras.

Good luck getting sorted out. Keep trying.

It's very easy to book days on pheasant now

Game isn't shot on Sundays so unless you get sat off forget it unless you book mid week days say?

Syndicates are all about pheasant and some duck and there are any number of them about but were are you in lancs?

Wildfowling offers good shooting in lancs but is really a sport on its own without any of the guarantee you get with game and uncomfortable environment that can be attractive or very unattractive depending on what you like

The wildfowling clubs in Lancashire are all hard to get into but just north and just south of the country things are a bit easier. Reason is its one of the very best places to go. It is however possible just long waiting lists

Wildfowling has always been the shooting sport of the working man and although costs have risen it's a lot cheaper than game

I'm over Burnley way and yes Sunday is my main day off which is why Sweethill shooting syndicate isn't any use to me really (they dont allow shooting on sundays) and I'm just not sure about this NPPC one because I'm not in the area and so it would be hit and miss on choosing the correct field to shoot over for those pigeon purely because I wouldn't be "in the know" on which fields are being attacked by pigeons.

Wildfowling, now thats a different story. I did some a month or so ago and yes, it was harsh but I found it very enjoyable. Even after a 30 mins walk through mud to get to the right place. I still have about 9 wigeon breasts in the freezer from that outing! I can only hope the nice chap that took me out will propose me as a member so that I can get the process started. Most clubs had closed their waiting lists when I last asked and said they would let me know when they reopened them.

Ill just keep plugging away and Im sure Ill find something eventually whether that be a nice farmer or a syndicate type shoot. Pheasant shoots are ok but at a good few hundred quid a place its a little beyond my willingness to pay. I realise there is a cost to the birds and so thats way it costs so much.

I am in the forest of bowland. Not too far away there is lots of shooting here but your highly unlikely to get it in Burnley unless you know the owner. there is stacks of rough shooting days let around me but sorry if you cant pay a couple of hundred a year then you wont pay the going rate.

I don't think shooting should be the preserve of the wealthy but it has a going rate and birds cost to rear, pigeon shooting is non existent unless you drive a minimum of 30+ miles and you will likely have to pay

Kent, Sorry fella but I really dont know where you're getting the idea that I wont pay a couple of hundred a year? I wont pay a few hundred just for a day though as you would with a driven day etc... I am by no means tight but neither am I a Rothchilds.

I would have joined sweethill for just under £400 but Sundays are a no go for them and its too far to go for a couple of hours after work.

I dont expect to get much around Burnley purely because there isnt much in the way of arable farming however I have been trying around preston/ormskirk area which isnt close by any means and frequently travel an hour to go shooting with a pal I met from here so travelling isn't a hassle.

There is stuff about here in season that can be had for under 100 a day

Not 100% sure on exact prices and it's a bit late to be asking this season

Sunday you should forget game is not shot on Sunday and over the border no duck either

It was in your previous post perhaps you meant a day but you didn't say it
