TaxiDriver
A word to the wise, I was asked to take a vehicle to Louth in Lincolnshire and found myself on the A16 near a place called Cowbit(?) anyways got flagged down at a Checkpoint, question of tachometer comes up and I admit I haven't got a card in as we're exempt doing recovery work within 100miles and as I was only doing a 150 round trip I was good to go. This is what I've always been told by the guy I work for and I've taken what I've been told as being correct, Silly me really for not checking for myself !!! Turns out, the exemption is only for working with 100km radius of where vehicle is registered/based. So, I got an instant 9hr prohibition from driving, and a £300 fixed penalty notice, payable within 28 days :( Vehicle would have been immobilised and an £80 release fee payable had the trucks owner not found a local company to come and drive the truck away to their base. So, I'm not blameless, it is after all ultimately the drivers responsibility to make sure he (I) complies with the law, but I'm slightly ****** that I took what I was told as gospel and its cost me dearly I worked from 3am till 04.00 then again from midday and got home around 8pm and was £300 down :( I'm going to give up working and go and sign on as a jobseeker, had enough of working an 84hr shift often for equivalent of £2.50 -£3.50 per hour and one weekend in 7 off. So, any of you driving professionally, please be careful to stay on the right side.
robbiep
Sorry, but as a (ex-)professional driver myself I've got little, if any, sympathy for you. Maybe you need to find a boss who actually understands the legislation, obeys the law, and ensures his employees are treated properly. If he is transport manager (which he probably should be, by LAW), he is supposed to be on his toes about this sort of thing. No excuse for stopping with a bad employer. Surfer
As an employer he has a duty of care,as you do to him as an employee He is responsible to give you the correct information about driving hours, also has to keep records of hours & tacho graphs training He is partly to blame in this so why should you stump up all the fine if any

Besides, how am I to prove what he has or has not told me. I didn't post looking for sympathy but as more of a cautionary tale to others. Surfer
He's still miss informed you,and from what you say about your hourly pay he should do the decent thing and pay up As said about the agency pay,if he doesn't then you would be better off agency as he has no loyalty to you Al
