ratus
I clean my run daily, bag up the dog mines,(soon as i spot them) then chuck some water down & brush the pee & water in a channel, which goes into a bucket,as there is no drain close enough unfortunetly, this is emptied twice daily, obviously with warmer weather comming has any one any other ideas ie: pit with layers of gravel etc..., jayes fluid , cheers RATUS
Lancs Lad
I was considering putting gravel in my run but thought against it as Jas keeps on chewing stones at the moment. Hes not dropping the kids off in his run..................instead saving them up till its time for me to come home from work and I let him out...then its off to the garden. Ive run a length or two of guttering from the base of the run to the drain, its about 7 ft away, concreted in and its job done. Not too sure if you need to wash it out twice per day though. Picking up the ***** yes, but dont think you need to wash it out that frequent... But Im a dog run virgin and am sure Ill get tol otherwise............. Cranfield
Can you dig a soakaway for the water to go into from the channels, that has always worked in my past dog runs. If you use plenty of water it dilutes the urine so much, there is no smell.
Country_est
Ratus, Your dog is still just a young one isnt he, Mine is now 7 I got him at 6 months but he didn't go into the current run till he was 18 months (new house), but neither he or the old dog (when I had her) would ever do it in the run. Both would on the lawn if allowed (first thing am), but allway took them for a walk straight from the run, or the other time is just after feeding in the eve, but try to take him out then as well. Also he will not do it (unless very desparate) on concrete or whilst on the leader. So I think as yours gets older then he should start lasting longer, and it helps it you can get him into a regular routine Trev

Cheers Cranfield, i think i will dig a soak away, with a few feet of gravel, for filteration. thanks again for your advise I was considering putting gravel in my run but thought against it as Jas keeps on chewing stones at the moment. Got a concreate base laid, so i dont want him trampling his skid marks all over the house, (i have a 22 month baby girl who does that), looks a bit more hygenic & smells hygenic also. cheers lancs lad
Paul in North Lincs.
My run interconnects into the garage which is about 14 x 10 ft...... When I designed my run I completely forgot to put in any form of drainage, so I have been pick up the **** burgers and brushing with disinfectant and water daily, as the run soon starts to stink of dog, especially now its warming up.......................in the garage I have 3 bails of straw spread over the floor........much easier to clean, and keeps the dogs coats shiney, and keeps that kennel wiff off them. I have recently built a raised platform 2 inches off the ground, and I'm going to take up the paving slabs under it and dig a shallow pit of about a foot and fill it with sand and and pebbles so that I can drain the ecess water away..............upto now I have had to wait for it to dry before allowing them back in!! Lancs Lad
My base is laid with paving slabs, Ive left the mortar recessed so it adds drain channels. At the end ive concreted in a gutter and that slopes off to the drain. Jas isnt dropping the kids off in the run though.......Waiting till he gets out and then goes round the corner on the gravel.... He isnt urinating that much either in there.
tuck1
To keep thinks nice and fresh there is some kind of sealant which can be brushed onto concrete, this then stops urine etc from sinking in. I will try to find out what it is and report back, maybe someone else can advise? Tuck
