malkiserow
I cut a few last weekend and they were getting heavier already.....
Llanshooter
The book says best one month either side of christmas. others say cut em when you see em cos someone else will have them. I'm going to cut a few this week, but like maliserow says they're getting heavier so these will be the last ones.

road-runner
ps do they just take longer to season or does it affect the quality.
malkiserow
Before the sap starts rising! that is the theory but when exactly is that? when changes like buds appear to start opening it's easy but just before ?..... a bit harder. panoma1
After leaf fall and prior to budding....is when the sap is not rising! And is ideally the time to cut some sticks, they can be cut at any time but take longer to dry and its less easy to spot the good ones when the leaves are on! Holly and the like can be cut at any time....but like the man said if you see a good un cut it, cos if you don't someone else will!
