Hi all, I have a 2003 ranger double cab and its a bit smokey on start up, once it's started its absolutely fine and dies NOT use any oil, I'm guessing it's unburnt fuel is that the likely source??

I've had the truck for about 5 yrs I think and it's only done 20,000 miles in that time it's now got 125k on the clock, has a full service history but it is about due a service.

Thank you

Worth simply looking at the air cleaner if its been a wile since you serviced it, but some how doubt its that unless really bad fillter.

I would check the heater plugs it could well have one down and that would make it smoke like you discribe, any sign of anything on the drive where the exhaust exits ?

If smokes hazy blue it could be a valve stem / seal but again with the ranger i doubt this, look at the heater plugs is my tip.

We have it serviced every year even though it does about 4K a year, it's always wanted for nothing but the smokey start has got worse, I'll book it in to our local garage, every year the mechanic asked me if I want to sell it but I always say no, but I do have an itch for a disco ;)

That way you get to see much more of the garage
