Now I have always shot an O/U but was wondering what the difference is with shooting a S/S?

I am asking cause hopefully SGC here soon and my first instict is to buy a second hand O/U but should I rule out a S/S because they are so much cheaper?

Thanks in advance :good:

its all down to what you are going to shoot

if you want to shoot clays. o/u or semi

if its serious game s/s or o/u

or get one of each

Id go for an Over and under for your first gun, excellent all rounder! cant go wrong!

Semi's for fun

Side by side you can get a cheap SBS especially if you want a knock about field gun that you can run over! (Im looking your way Lord Gordie!!) haha sorry i havnt been around to take the micky on this one!

semi's for game..... :good: I would love to see you turn up at a driven game shoot sporting an escort in wildfowling camo stock! :good: me thinks the gun wouldn't get to fire a cartridge!

But for pigeons, rabbits and corvids a semi does make sense. I am in a similar first SG situation myself, thinking of buying the farmers old AYA sbs then maybe after a while a semi or nice ou. If not considered a new lamber/bettonsoli 12g ou, does everything that way!

I find it quite easy to swap between my O/U and SBS, but they are very different guns to shoot. The sightline, the weight of the gun, the English grip compared to a pistol grip. It all adds up. But an SBS is so much more satisfying to shoot.....

What ever you get, O/U - S/S - Semi.....there is one thing more important than anything...fit.

Make sure the gun suits you, your body, your mount.

Once you have one that fits you get a big advantage.

For general shooting I would suggest an O/U, S/S or O/U for game though. I know of no shoot that will let you out with a semi.

BSA Shaun, youv'e heard of try before you buy, do just that & form your own opinion, everyone to there own, use what you feel comfortable with, & not what is recommened.

Thanks for the advice chaps :)

Do fancy a semi but they just strike me as a bit unruly

Really like the O/U but there is something about S/S which speaks proper country, if you know what I mean :good:

Will investigate what fits, as has been mentioned. Thanks again and any futher advice would be great
