Left handed fowling gun.

I have just accepted a job in Northern Ireland that should last me two years. I understand life is much easier if you move over with ones desired guns then have them added to the local ticket. I would rather like to take up wildfowling but am unsure what gun to use.

I have an Akkar Churchill which seems a bit too pretty to drop in a marsh. Ideally my heart wants a cheap ten bore side by side to home load but trying to recast one to left hand sounds like it could be a struggle.

Armsan make a plastic left eject three inch semi but will i end up losing cases everywhere?

The only other logical option i can think of would be a bps in 12 or 10 bore, but they seem rare as hens teeth.

Any other ideas or bits of advice would be greatfully recieved.

I shoot left hand down to left eye dominance but i am ambidextrous , so i get by fine with left or right hand shotguns, but like a left bolt in rifles.

So you probably dont need a true left hand gun, this broadens your options conciderably.

If you must have a true left hand auto, Remington 1100 and 1187s are common as are the benellis and fabarm do a left hand.

Hatsan and as you pointed out armsan and a few other turkish guns are available left hand, more left hand semi autos than ever thesae days.

There was lots of problems with 3.5" originally with the A400 , but that was suppose to have been sorted on the newer models.

Nothinng wrong with using a right handed semi auto left handed, been using one left handed for about 20 years.

as you say its a pain in the **** clearing up empties after a session using any semi

Exactly i dont have a left hand semi auto at the moment all right handed.

WB123 the BPS has not been brought in for a good few years, you cvould try importing one its not that expensive, a few years ago a mate brought a Ithaca nitro SxS 10ga in it was about 550 pounds and by the time he got it to his RFD here it was about 700 pounds, and guns are ussualy cheaper in the states but obviously that depends. But it is feasable if you want the task on importing, i was told the DTI are good for advice but me contact BASC they will help you with the details another great service they provide. . .

I thought r handed auto guns were ok for a leftie too...........

Until unburnt/ still burning powder is blown back in your eye out of the ejection port!!!!!!!!! Painful and dangerous! Had it happen with an AL391 a long time ago fowling in a strong wind. Never shot a r/hand auto since without glasses. My eye sight is too valuable!!!! L/hand autos are the way to go shooting magnums in cold temps, strong winds and wet conditions! 👍

Widgeon man has a very good point, i have not had a dramatic powder blow back as he discribes, but i have had the issue of blowback from the right handed guns before, i had an 1100 steet i used as my main pigeon shooting gun in the late 1970s, i did a lot of pigeon shooting back then and i did notce i got sore eyes after a busy day, and quite in contrast to widgeon man it wasx on hot days with light loads.

I do use right handed autos now because in sp10 and gold 10s i can only get right handed guns, there are a lot of leftie semis out there these days right from the budget priced hatsans to berettas, so a left handed gun is more available now than it ever has been.

And what widgeon man said about glasses we should all wear them regardless when shooting anything, but i dont and to be honest its very silly our eyes need protection regardless.
