After some of your advice Gentleman, i took my car in for repair last Monday, it needed a service and was suffering from a squeak and a smell of exhaust fumes in the cab, after leaving it with them they diagnosed an exhaust manifold gasket, 250 quid including a service and alternator belt. phoncall later saying it needed a new exhaust system, bill goes up fair enough. picked car up Thursday night it still has a smell of fumes, still in the cab, still has a squeak, and now the fuel injection warning light is on, whats the best way to approach the garage and what rights do i have?

so far they have changed the catalytic convertor, part of the exhaust and lambda sensors??

Take it back and get them to sort it properly. If they have not diagnosed the correct part its down to them... I wont let a car leave my garage if its not right unless the customer needs it and brings it back another time to correct it, just my 2 cents :)

appreciate the advice, do you know what right i have just in case they try fobbing me off?

MODS why has this been moved?

All depends whether you took it in to have specific jobs done or just with a problem. If you told them to change such and such then it's your problem if it doesn't work. If you went in with just a fault and they diagnosed it then it's their problem (relatively, we all get some things wrong).

Just take it back and politely tell them that you've just paid over £250 and all the faults, along with new ones, are still there. Can you please have it repaired correctly now you've paid. :good:

Stick to your guns and tell them to put it right. If you fixed someone's boiler and it wasn't right, they would be straight on the phone to you and rightly so.

Chances are they are a reputable business and will try to rectify it. If they start being funny tell them you will get an indepedent opinion and if necessary get in touch with trading standards. After all exhaust fumes are toxic.

Just speak to the garage initially, i'm sure they will sort it.
