kippylawkid
With drillings and pigeons on all my permissions it was hard to choose which field to shoot. I opted for an old favourite (I'm sure we all have them?) that I knew had an established flight line, thinking that even if the birds did switch fields, I could still hope to pull a few off the line. I called Colin, keeper of our syndicate to check all was well to shoot and asked if he fancied a shot? He had been a pigeon mentor of mine many years ago and it had been a long time since we had shared a hide. He has given me the opportunity to shoot many decent bags over the years and I hoped to give him a bit of pay him back. He jumped at the chance and we had a brilliant afternoon of shooting, banter and generally putting the world straight. We started with 12 plastics and struggled to pull the birds from a strong, but extremely high line. As soon we had a few down I put the whirly and 2 flappers out and the birds did respond. It was thrilling to see them commit to the pattern, dropping near vertically from a great height. Started shooting at 1.30 and packed in at 6pm. I let my pal do most of the shooting and we picked 34. Not the biggest bag but a great afternoon in the spring sunshine - I think he may have caught the bug again!

JDog
Banter and birds. What could be better? Where was the high line heading? There could be another day at the end of it.
pigeon controller
Sounds a perfect day, I fail to be amazed when you pull birds off a high flightline when they just close the wings and drop to your pattern, you know that your display is right when this happens. Well done.
kippylawkid
How perceptive you are JD. They are hitting a big block of drilled barley on a neighbouring farm. Unshot, but watch this space!
kippylawkid
Cheers PC. No matter how many times it happens I'm sure all pigeon shooters never tire of seeing sky-high birds fold their wings and hurl themselves into the pattern. I hope I never do!
