ChrisPCarter
I'm starting to shoot a bit more seriously in a few minor sporting competitions and am wanting to standardise on a good fibre cartridge. Some of the grounds I shoot and my local pub league won't allow plastic so that's a no no. At the moment I keep trying all sorts and I am sure my scores will improve if I stick to one thing. I don't want to spend silly money as I'll be using quite a few so what ranges should I be looking at? I know they might not necessarily improve my scores but I'm wanting something fast but smooth that I can have confidence in that will pattern well and hit hard. I do like some 24 gram cartridges for their lack of recoil which seems to have helped me get back on the second target better but I'm considering 28 gram too as long as they don't kick too hard. Either 7.5 or 8 shot. Recently I've been using Gamebore Evo 28g 7.5's and have just ordered some Hull Pro Fibre 24g 8's to try. I tried a box of 28g Cheddite Smart Strike and Trap Oro which I like but I will have to get a few more to test properly. The Oro's had a lovely pattern and were very smooth but are a bit over my budget which I'm trying to keep to under £200 per 1000. What others do you suggest I look at? Do you choke up more with 24g loads? I currently shoot 1/4 and 1/2 on sporting and there aren't many long range birds. Chris.
AlistairB
I use Evo Fibre 24g 8's through 1/4 and 1/2 or 1/2 and 1/2 generally, a nice consistent cartridge that doesn't break the bank. AB
dougall
Jc own brand or gamebore white golds 7.5s,..1/4 & 1/2 fine forget about choke fiddling.Hull do good fibre too.....so pick one buy 1000 then you are stuck to trying one for a bit!I pay £200/thou for w/golds......they are a well proven cartridge so you can forget about blaming them!!...and at @ £50 a slab as good as you'll ever need...JCs own are made by Gamebore and to all intents & purposes perform the same if you need a purple case to match your hand bag.....xx

They just seem a bit pricey round my way but maybe I need to search more. I also have a fear of using them and being compared to him ha ha! I haven't tried JC's own but have heard nothing but good things about them. My Mrs loves purple but I'm not so sure myself! I've stuck to 1/4 and 1/2 for the last year or so but have only just started using 24 gram cartridges and wondered if they needed tightening up. A few guys at the club who use 21g said they use tighter chokes with them so just wondered. I'll have to pattern test some I guess.
dougall
Digweed shot our charity day last year we are fibre only he used w/gold 28g 7.5s for everything and won with a 97....now he could use any but uses white gold(yes I know they sponsor him but so would any other cartridge manufacturer).....Don't get worried by tight chokes,in fact if it were me would go other way and stick 1/4 & 1/4 and forget about it. ChrisPCarter
Yes I think it means a lot that he has stuck with them for so long when he must be offered sponsorship by all the manufacturers. If he thought he could get better I'm sure he would use them and his record speaks for itself.
DrBob
I absolutely love Fiocchi F-Black Sporting. Smooth, comfortable, consistent and sensibly priced at around £190 a thousand. Give 'em a try......

Give 'em a try...... I've tried the standard F-Black and liked them but they were only in a continental 7.5, UK 7 ish shot, and plastic wad other than that I'd probably have stuck with them. Plastic is OK on my local ground but nowhere else I shoot :( I'll have to try the Sporting ones and see how I get on with them.
figgy
Hull Superfast for me. Good cart at around £170.00 a thousand,I find them soft to shoot. Plenty of good carts out there, the Chedite Universal Trap are a good cartridge and cheap too. I find a lot of the budget carts are absolutely fine.
