Hornady v max 55 grain

Recommended Posts

a 1 in 14 twist rate in a .22250, they will stabalise 70 grain speers at just over 3000 fps why wont they stabalise 55s?

Give the odd thou' either way, they are both the same length, but which 70 Speer do you mean if I might ask?

Edit: Final phrase deleted as it was incorrect.

The semi pointed 70 grain, i have never used the newer speer varmint 70 grain bullets in a .22250.

Glad my comment gave a rise, hope this gives you some idea of how stupid your comments sounds regarding '.223 speeds' .....

You have said that much and all of it nonsense, but trying to pass your stupidity off as a rise is evidence if any was ever needed to show your ignorance.

H 4350 is the powder i had best accuracy with CCI BR 2 primer col.. 2.324 inch 3080 fps from Ruger N01 B.

I asked about the 70g because I can only find reference to one - the Semi Spitzer Soft Point, Product No 1053, but if I read correctly you use a 70g in a 1 in 14 twist as is my 1B - not that I'd use 70g as mine's in 22 Hornet.

Center chest sideways shot always puts them down unless its very low. I use that as opposed to a heart shot as a low shot aimed at the heart can take a leg out. Low center chest shot and its in the heart area.

I have shot foxes with 20, 22 and 6mm using Vmax, SBKs, Berger match and Varmint, Barts, NBTs and a handful of other match bullets. All work, degree of damage will depend on the distance and if the bullet hits a bone. I have had pencil throughs using Vmax but I have had match bullets almost take a cubs head off one night, front on with head down, I plonked it into the neck from above, hit the spine and apart from a bit oF skin decapitated it at about 75 yards with a 68 gr BARTS ULTRA MATCH AT 3500. I have had no exits, usually on long ones using 39gr SBKS.

In a 223 then Sierra Blitz King would be my bullet of choice.

There is a 55 grain semi Point which is very good indeed. - Sierra ref 1350

I use that one along with the 60g Vmax. The #1350 seems reasonably accurate and hard hitting loaded with around 24g N133 loaded to 2.26OAL (which gives around 3200fps). 60g Vmax seem to offer the tighter groups in my rifle and have a higher BC so better for longer shots.

I suspect you are loading for a .223. I am a .222 user and have a 1:14 twist (Tikka T3) . I've never tried heavier and presumed I am at the top weight for the caliber. Here is my result from 20 grains of N130, 100M off a bipod laying down in the field.
