Guest stiv24
Guys I am looking at a second hand Beretta AL391 synthetic semi auto. 28'' multi choke with 3'' chamber. Not very old and in good condition. Advertised for £695 but offered £600 over the phone. The guy is interested in a deal and I was quite happy with the price subject to me seeing it but I have just phoned the spec through to Ladds guns and they told me they can supply the same gun for £705 brand new. Any thoughts? Also I wanted advice on gun fit. Is that something i can work out for myself or do i need to visit the shooting ground? Cheers Steve
Oly
Don't buy anything without trying one first...not when spending that much anyway! Gunfit - best to consult a dealer/smith
pin
An experienced gun fitter needs to help you out. The bonus with that gun is it comes with a set of tools and shims to alter the stock to suit. That's if they are still in the box with it

Guest stiv24
Just spoke to Ladds again and they got it wrong. That gun is no longer available but it has been superseeded by the ulrika 2 kickback at a cost of £825.00 new. So the £705 AL391 is no longer available new and I'm not sure I want to spend £800 but tom from ladds and I were chatting about this gun for £600 and they said it was a good price so long as it hasnt been shot to pieces. Any ideas what to check for? The seller says he hasn't had much time to use the gun and its in great confdition - well he would wouldn't he. Many Thanks Steve

Gonna Shoot a Wabbit
I have the beretta Al391 synthetic with 26"barrel and 3"inch chamber and am very pleased with it. straight out of the box it didn't fit me at all i could see all the reciever and the barrel rib too! However one of the shims supplied with the gun sorted the gunfit out straight away and it now fits me perfectly . I believe shims are available from gmk?? if the gun doesn't come with one. Make sure you try it as said before in this thread, check for smooth operation of bolt in the receiver, look for wear around the cartridge ejection port. Hope this helps. Highlander
Steve If you can get the secondhand gun (and it's in good nick) for £600 I'd recommend it. What to look for??? How much shooting has it done? If it's the synthetic you should be able to spot any wear/damage easily enough which might indicate the amount of use it's had. To be frank there's not much can be wrong with them and they certainly stand up to a lot of abuse. Go for it.
Guest stiv24
Guys, Thanks for the advise. Been to see the gun today, looks like new except a few minor scratches. Got the guy down to £575 and bought the gun. Popped down to the clay range on the way home and shot like a demon which was most unusual. When I asked the gunsmith to check it out for me he turned his nose up at it, bit of a traditionalist and although he didnt like it he said it hadn't done much work and was a lot of gun for the money paid. This cheered me up no end as the last shotgun I bought was a s/s - took it in to show him on the way home and all he did was laugh. Turns out it had a bent barrel so back to the shop I went and got a refund. I couldn't see what he was looking at but they do say little knowledge is dangerous. My next question is......... I'm told you can adjust the spring. Why would you want to do that? I have just shot 50 28g shells and had 2 not eject properly, they caught on the way out, will this adjustment help? I wouldn't normally shoot shells that light. Once again, many thanks for helping me Steve

Once again, many thanks for helping me Steve HI steve firstly make sure your gun is clean and the piston slides freely. clean out any coke in the gas piston housing, make sure the gas holes from the barrel are clear. take out the breech assembly and clean it use oil sparingly too much oil is not good for auto's .this gun should recycle 24 gram cartridges all day mine did. any gun smith can then adjust the gas pressure to suit, if it needs it. my advice is see a true beretta man. dont worry about the gun. they just dont go wrong. one thing is it a game /field gun or a sporter. reason is game/field guns are usually set up for heavier loads. but a little tweak by a gun smith will sort you out.
