welshwarrior
Do you mean a classic Mauser type take down like a Rigby or a modern blazer type take down in a safari calibre?

14Supersport04
The sauer 202 takedown goes up to .458 and isn't to expensive compared to the traditional English makers. Westley richards make a seriously good bolt action rifle that can come in a takedown format but it costs about £20,000. I wouldnt go larger than .458 for a bolt action or straight pull rifle, if you want something bigger such as .470 or .500 i would go for a double rifle. May i also suggest that you get a rifle with open sights just in case you find yourself in thick cover with an angry buffalo trying to kill you. Walker570
Hmmmm? Take down rifle. For what reason ? Air travel ? Convenience? What quarry ? I shoot a variety of Thompson/Centre Encores, single shot break open rifles and my barrels, other than my 300H&H barrel are 16 1/2 inch. Range from 17 Rem to 375JDJ Now if you are NOT including dangerous game and or driven game then my system would work as I can put two complete rifles in a Dosko Pistol case, approx. 18 inches by 14 inches by 6 inches(outside measurements) and it looks like a camera case. I could in fact take one action/stock and three barrels in the same box. Encore barrels have their own designated scopes, so maintain zero even when changed over. Your other choice is a double rifle with two or more sets of barrels. From the calibres you quote I assume cost is not a problem. My driven game rifle is a double in 8x57JRS and takes up very little room in a case and puts both barrels inside 1 1/2 moa if I do my job. Heh!! Choices Choices !! welshwarrior
I had a 275 Rigby take down for awhile work very well some disliked the steel joint line in the forend went together with easy retained zero and looked cool. I know that Rigby are looking to make a few more best rifle in take downs think 416 was mentioned be a hell of a gun.

Bear68
I bought a Schultz and Larsen Classic recently for around £1200; very easy to switch barrels and a well made and accurate rifle. Mine is in 30-06; bought it to take to Africa for plains game. Edited July 8, 2016 by Bear68
