secretagentmole
Had to be careful when you went out the back for a fag, they got soggy and hard to light I liked Floods, the old chef there, Gordon Knight, was damned good, I used to eat his food every day.... I was lodging in his house in Kent Close at the time mind. He cooked damned nice food, 1988-89, £50 a week, half board, all laundry done, It was supposed to be £55, but I had my own colour tv so the one they rented for that room could go back! Piebob
You was lucky the policeman didn't book you. I believe that if the police close a road you can not pass, and to ignore that is disobeying the law, which is an offence. The shock of the water probably threw him! I think you missed pretty much the entire point of the story

I think you will find it was a C*H*I*M*P*S (Cannot Help In Most Police Situations), Potted Plant (looks nice but fog all use), Plastic Plod, or PKSO (Puts Kettle Softly On)....
