charlie-hunter
Hi lads, was on eBay after a few beers last night and am trying to convince myself I haven't dropped a boo boo. So I just bought a brand new mark 5 mec off ebay, waiting for delivery. Think I got it at a good price as it comes with a rcbs 505 beam scale as well. How are they? I know they are popular in the states, just wondering how the are rated over here. Cheers
Guest cookoff013
They are really fantastic. Can I suggest a modification? (12gauge machines) Buy the "long threaded crimp punch" it is a godsend for European hulls. It gets the 70 thou crimp./ Factory style. I have lots of mods to mine. But I sold it to buy a 9000. Bought a size master. I put a long threaded punch on my 9000 too. When you order it, check its for single stage machines. What gauge you got? Is it the same as the brass MEC super crown crimper?
seeker
MEC Cam Crimp Punch, Long Threads #621B12LT, is not the same, it is a part of the final crimp stage. The super crown sharpens the folds at the pre-crimp stage; I use one on a 28g and they work, but they don't do the long thread for 28s. When you set it up use a factory cartridge of the same type of case that you're reloading to set the adjustments..... it can make life easier. Another item you may want later is a spinner/taper crimp die for 'that fresh from the factory finish.' A good machine for the job. TONY R
As said the mecs are tried and tested they are not the most popular loading machine in the world for nothing, Resonably priced and do a great job you done well with that buy.
