Nice afternoon on barley stubble

After too long, Bluebarrels and I had a long overdue shoot together today.

Quick cuppa at home, then headed off to the farm. The lads were picking up the round all but there were a few birds here and there. We elected to set up backs to a bale 70 yards apart. Even with the bales being picked, a few birds committed and we bagged those.

The lads were closing in with the pick up, so we upped hides and moved to what is usually a productive corner. Bb bagged a cracking high shot on a crow, and we had few more pigeons. It wasn't really happening, so I left Bb on guard, and drove to see were the birds were going. Based on my recce, we threw the gear back in the truck and moved another 800 yards, over the ridge.

Hides up again, decoys out, a couple of hasty floaters cut from hazel, saw us back in the action!

BB was using the 12g and I used my 20g with some punchy home loads!!

We finished on 20 picked and a few unpicked due to the dense under grown. Normally the dog would have picked these, but not on Barley.

Thanks for a great catchup and day out BB. You know why I've not been out for 18 months, but the famine is over!!!!
