Women & clayshooting

Morning folks,

I'm in unfamiliar territory here :good:

I asked my girlfriend a while back if she'd like to give some informal clay bashing a go sometime. Said that she would but was concerned about the recoil from the shotgun, I believe she's never fired a semi automatic but an O/U. Anyhow she mentioned something about a "breastplate" for women shooters? (Some type of female specific protection anyhow, just waiting for the jokes now  ) That she'd feel better about shooting (which is the entire idea here) knowing she wasn't going to get bruised from the recoil.

I did a little Googling but I don't really know what I'm looking for so I didn't come up with much

So, is there such a thing?

Thanks in advance,

John B)

I had difficulty finding one, so after advice from a gunshop I made one out from hi density foam, I used an old sleeping mat (no longer) used for camping - yoga mats are the same sort of thing. The wife's shooting vest already had a inside pocket behind the shoulder pad, so I just cut it to fit and it works well.

Correct gun mount and cartridge choice will be a big factor in the amount of felt recoil she feels, though.

My Missus doesnt use one of these things, but does use a soprts bra cos there is no BUCKLE on the FRONT, which is where she would pick up her bruises from.

Other that that when she first tried with my gun she ended up with a chipped collar bone, so trying to get her to use your gun might not be too good an idea if you are of different sizes.

Ended up buying her a new gun, and now am struggling to keep ahead of her scores and she has beaten me twice so far.

I have a Magnum Kick Eez pad fitted to my gun which reduces recoil considerably and wasn’t very expensive. I’d previously read reports that it really does work so had one fitted and I’m very pleased.

I do on the odd occasion get bruises on my collar bone. This is always down to not mounting the gun properly. I also have bruised my face from lifting my head off the stock to watch the clay break. I had my gun fitted by Nigel Teague and it fits me properly so any bruising is my own fault. :yahoo:

My advice is buy your girlf her own gun and have it fitted properly. Then she can enjoy her shooting without the worry of a gun that may bruise her because it doesn’t fit. :good:
