greenergp
If we cant get anymore Steel powder how does Vihtavouri compare with it for 10 bore loads. Is there any load data available for loading 10 bore with steel shot and vihtavouri?
TONY R
Vitavouri in 105 is a slow powder its 2400 sort of area not quite 410 powder but working on it closer to steel but no way as progresive in its nature, Now 2400 its too slow even for tens etc, 105 vit is not that bad but its still not steel and its tame compared to blue dot, the burning rate charts are a guide a rough guide a very rough guide. you only learn by trying, Now for me anyway i think the 3N38 vitavouri is a better option but its faster makes more pressure so velocity tends to suffer due to this . With steel these coments are based around other shot even copper and bismuth do a little better on 3N38. My coments are my feeling based on the crusher gun and the pattern plate and how it faired last season on ducks and geese, it works, but its not cheap even if you compare it to SSB150 which like it or loathe it we best get used to it, because if no A steel or 381 shows up in the next 18 months we are well in the clart, im out the game in two years with my stockpile and i dare say some wont finish this season before they are in trouble. there are a few other powder options around non of them anything sapecial and all in all are more expensive than SSB150 is at this moment in time. I tried SSB150 very slightly just touched on it felt it was too variable and a bit wild for tens which was what i was playing with at the time, but i think it might work out ok for 12 in light to medium loads. The 3.5 inch loads with SSB150 look to be ok but its not A steel. I dont know what others thoughts are on the powder sittuation, but me i think its getting no better, lots of sujestion its coming soon but nothing materialising so far and its been some time since any A steel came in the on shelf stocks have been bird doged out of every shop in the uk, Its simply not about any more. A 381 A 380 A 356 they are not happening as far as i can tell its been years now since it was availa ble and sorry i think its just a part of history for reloaders. From an ecconomy point of view SSB150 is where its at at the moment. There is simply no other show in town. If that makes you groan with disaproval ask yourself this if SSB150 was taken off sale tomorrow where then would you look. It realy dont bear thinking about. And with no comerecial ten ammo available apparently these are indeed desperate times we are living in.
roughshooter
I did proof a load for the N105 in 10 bore and was fine - needed a little more powder to get the speed on the button but I lost interest in the 10 and concentrated on the 12 3n38 is ideal for the 10 Edited August 27, 2016 by roughshooter

TONY R
I dont know but hodgdons winchester were the same basic surplus military powder blends as one another, HS7 was like win 571 HS6 was like win 540 and, this bit im not too sure about, but vectan SP3 and SP2 looks the same as HS 6 and 7 to me, it could be its totaly new powdrer or is it aussie made olin group military ball surplus re packaged under the vectan title .. ADI is still this type of ball powder in much of its powders as is Mulwex as50 and ap70 etc, all australian olin group ball powders. As 6.5 55 se says Longshot is an interesting powder one i personaly have not done near enough with, when i could buy it i never bothered with now its hard to get i kind of want it, aint that the way with everything in life. Soon be the season lads time then to just forget all this stuff get to what its all really about then.

6.5x55SE
I am just going to start playing with vhit in the 20 I have some 12 ready to use. What sort of weight are you putting over vhit int the 20 They only data i have/tried so far is 3/4 oz in a 3" case. Loaded with Steel 4'shot they shot/worked Very well on Pigeon. I've loaded Steel 2's ( same load ) to try on Inland Geese and Steel 4's for Duck. First impressions indicate they hit hard and should be fine
