LEFTY478
Ask the assessor to show you where you can get a replacement of your make & model, for the price he's offered you - ie. an evidence based offer and ask him to provide documenty proof. He's unlikely to it, though and even more unlikely to want to, as this would easy to use in a complaint to the Financial Ombusman Service which, even if you have no intention of making a complaint, it wouldn't hurt if he thought you were going to do. Dr W
Get a MKII Golf GTI, mines on a 1990 G plate has done 117k and still starts first time everytime and is like a little go cart, never going get rid of it and when I move to the country it will be my station car. Similar would cost you £1500 and still have money to pay your ridiculous insurance costs? Who are you with by the way, Elephant very reasonable or Hyperformance and meant to be ok. However I understand that the amount you guys pay for insurance is through the roof.
dunganick
im with tesco's just talked to the garage and it sounds like they would be willing to offer me in the region of 4k for my car or repair it (repairs worth 2200-2500) considering that i only paid 4400 for my car and ive had it 9 months and put 11K on it i dont think this is a bad price what do you guys think? Lord Geordie
As I said in a previous post, if vauxhalls were the only car I'd walk. You won't go far wrong with a Ford or anything japanese. I hope you are sticking one into the other guys insurance company Seems odd I have had vauxhalls from the Chevette the astra MK1 the MK2 the MK3 and the cavalier mk2 mk3 the nova a Senator and NON have EVER let me down. The Astra AND cavalier were both returning a good 50mpg on long runs were cheap for service parts and a doddle to work on. I have had VWs with soft valves before and the LAST VW i bought a Lupo! The gearbox bearings collapsed after 60.000 miles The Polo's I had were **** too. Fords lets see the ONLY ford I had worth it's salt was the MK1 Fiesta! The Mk2 and MK3 were rust boxes The 1400 escort I had had nothing but trouble with the inlet manifolds cracking. This was from BRAND NEW! Also the battery tray and bulkheads were rot traps and the timing belt tensioner keps comming loose! I am back onto a MK3 R reg V grille astra now and have NO intentions of changing again. It cost me £400 and it is immaculate not a spot of rust and only 50.000 on the clock. I am also a great Volvo fan after having a selection and the most impressive for Mpg was the 340 1.7 petrol which was returning 51mpg LG
BSA Shaun
I had a vectra 2.5 V6 SRi 1999, a Nova 1991 and a Cavalier CD 1986 and they were all superb cars I have to say. No probs with any of them.
dunganick
right well i accepted the insurance companies offer of 4K to write my car off as they wouldnt move on the price and it seemed a good one as i paid 4.4K 9 months ago. So now i am waiting on the cheque which for the time being will have £400 excess missing from it. And i think im going to (after all my critical comments) go for another diesel clio, dont care what anyone says they are good honest little cars. just a word to say thanks to LB who has been a great help with the whole thing. He's a great guy, if any of you are down his way (canterbury) and need some mechanical work doing, drop him a PM, he does good work at very fair prices. cheers to the rest of you as well
