1st Qusetion,

Is it against the law to carry a gun in a case on your back on your moped?

i beleved it was alright but was informed at college today that it was not, this was not by a shooter but some one who is really in to bikes.

2nd Question,

what is the law on having a moderator on your rifle in scotland?

last weekend i was in scotland with my friend trying to get him his first deer,on the way back to the cabin we bumped in to the gamekeeper of the neighbouring esate and he went mad when he saw one on my friends .243. he said it was against the law to have a one on any rifle bigger than a .22lr up there.

any help would be great

I can't think of any law that prevents anyone from carrying a firearm in a suitable cover on / in any form of transport as long as its transportation is for a purpose provided for in the carriers certificate. In other words if you are going shooting or to the gunsmiths or having just purchased it it's perfectly lawful to carry it on a moped.

Get hold of "Firearms law Guidance to the Police" from The Staionary office 0870 600 5522 it is a very good guide to firearms law.

Your mate is talking ********!!

The same book makes no mention of sound moderators on centrefire rifles being unlawful in Scotland.

I stand to be corrected!

You might not believe it but we actually get charged MORE in postage for items being sent up to Scotland. Certainly in the further north it goes.

It might just be that technoligy and information has not reached that far!!!!!!!!!

As for the moped, I can't see where the safety issue would be. It's securly fastened so that's it.

Just looks more unusual but that's what folks complain about.

They never complain of the unseen (like wee chickens getting there heads chopped of but they moan about furry wee bunnies being shot)

I really wish the topic would go away .. lol

It's not the topic as such . It's the title "THE LAW"

Every time i see the title it reminds me on a ol video i saw a while back . It had a dwarf in it . Not one of those fun rolly polly dwaves , but the evil faced ones .. You know the kind. The ones that knick 1 of your socks lol.

Anyways this dwarf was kitted out like a cowboy , with a hat and two guns lol.

He used to go round saying "IT'S THE LAW!"

Everytime i see the topic title i feel the urge to say .."IT'S THE LAW!"

Has anybody else seen this film

all the best yis yp  IT'S THE LAW!

heres the reply off basc.

Thank you for your email. There are no laws specifically banning the carriage of weapons on motorcycles. Obviously you will stick out like a saw thumb if you have a full length gun slip on your back and depending upon where you travel through, may pose a target to an opportunistic thief. I don't wish to alarm you, but it is a consideration, especially if you live in a town or city. The other factor is safety. If you did have an accident for whatever reason, the gun across our back may cause greater injury to you if for example you fell off.

You may wish to break the gun into two parts and carry it in a small rucksack or sports bag. You will achieve a less obvious shape.

In respect to sound moderators, you may wish to call Colin Shedden in our Scottish office, on 01350-723226, who will be able to brief you on Scottish law. Im afraid its not an area we have great expertise in down here in England.
