Dunkield
As I am bit lazy, I normally post off my cases to someone who has a tumbler and they send them back done, nice and easy. As he is away at the moment, I thought I would try doing them myself investing the same, or preferably even less effort. Vinegar seemed to do the job, but using it neat was a bit dodgy as my test case (get it) started to go blue when I left it out to dry too long. I got me some Tesco's 'value' vinegar and watered it down 50/50 with water - chucked 50 cases into an old ice cream tub, shook them up a bit, and left them for half an hour. Quick wipe down with a cloth and heh presto, almost as good as new. The tarnished ones could have been up to 3-4 years old and would have been in my pocket on few very wet Scottish stalking trips, so hardly surprising it didn't remove those marks. Anyway, worth a try, I would imagine Cilit Bang would do it even better
Oly
Not a technique I've read about. You sure the acidic nature of the vinegar residue won't react with anything it shouldn't??
Dunkield
The solution was diluted and any deposit was dried off so I doubt it very much. I haven't invented the wheel here, people who know far more about this than us have tried if before: http://www.6mmbr.com/ultrasonic.html I think I will try the dishwasher next though

henry d
Did you try the neutralizer ??
Dunkield
No just good old ***** sarsons (tesco value) and then rinsed them out. I stuck some in the oven when it was cooling down just to dry them out. As for the tumbler, I know they get them clean but believe me these are cleaner on the inside at least, I chopped one in half a while back I will dig out the picture (I am not convinced they need to be that clean BTW but just as a comparison) EDIT: Here it is, found it again, this is a 6.5 case cleaned with vinegar and a wipe round with a cotton bud
MC
It hardly seems worth cleaning that case Stuart, you will need to solder it back together
Dunkield
Ahh yes but it needs less flux this way Anyway, get the pictures of your new gun up on here (if you haven't already) I hope it isn't that RPA with the bent barrel in Fultons that everyone has been talking about
MC
I specifically asked for a bent barrelled one because it would suit my shooting style
