Pedro
I know a few of you on here are extremely competent mechanics, so was wondering what your diagnostic skills make of the following. My 54 plate Mondeo TDCI 130bhp estate has developed a horrendous smoke problem, misses, and makes a whistling/sucking sound when you put your foot down. The diesel comsumption is horrendous and it lacks power. No warning lights have come on, the oil and water are fine and when the engine isn't under strain it doesn't smoke. Any ideas please gents, (I've got a horrible feeling it's the turbo). P.
pin
There was a thread on here not so long ago, if it's the same thing they are known for it I think..
digger
Pedro, my money is its at least one injector that is either blocked or needs replacing. Had problem like the one you describe with my 54 plate tdci, searched the web ( google tdci problems ) and had it towed to my local ford dealer. Got the dreaded phone call and the repair cost a lot less than a full service. If my memory serves me correct the total including a service and new injector was under £400 so about £140 ish for the injector. Most dealers will run a diagnostic for about £40 ? My 130 now pulls like a train and returns 40mpg around town, 48 on long journeys. Best of luck
Pedro
I thought I saw something about them a while ago, cheers pin. Digger, hopefully I'll be off to the local dealership tomorrow. Would you consider this to be fair wear and tear?. (Just to cap off a **** day, I've just been out to take the dogs for a walk, started the Landy and then that stopped and wont go now ). P. digger
Depends on the mileage really, mine is now up to 106000 and the injectors are known to clog / need replacing I assume pretty much in the same way a petrol needs plugs. I looked at the worse case scenario and found an 130 tdci engine from a write off for £600 that had 40k on the clock that I would have swapped for my lump if the repair came to too much money. Even the turbo isnt that dear as long as you dont buy from ford. Next car will be the st diesel that puts out 155, nice looking car that eats the bmw diesels for breakfast
lurcherboy
You have a split intercooler or intake hose from your desciption. Save £'s by looking/ istening at the hoses while the wife revs the engine and fit a new one yourself. LB

No Naddan, it has an unusually high resistance to the MAF meter and is probably down to the MAP sensor. Test don't guess as my old mechanic said 3 million times a day LB

Pedro
One good bit of news, fixed the Landy It was a sticking needle in the float chamber allowing too much fuel in. Now to try out LBs' bit of advice, you never know, the day might just get even better P.
Pedro
It wouldn't make the sucking noise that it did whilst driving along It's booked into Fords in Braintree next Tuesday at 0700 , straight after I finish nights, and I've got to wait whilst they do it 'cos they haven't got a courtesy car I'm pretty certain it's covered under the warranty anyway, so it shouldn't cost me and if they try, woe betide them - not a particularly happy bunny P. It was fixed under warranty, but now they tell me that the front brake pads and probably discs need replacing I lurch from one financial crisis to the next P.
