jgguinness
Hi all I took a local gun (Pape) into a local gun shop today to have a chat with a fella who knows his Pape's. On the flats of the barrels there are some markings 13/1 and measured the bores, and then showed me on a chart how much play each barrel had in terms of being in proof. When I got home I looked at another set of barrels from another old English SBS, and it said 15/1. Stupidly I forgot to ask what those markings were called. I can pop in again tomorrow but thought I'd ask on here tonight. I'm just curious and want to know more about them. TIA Jonny
matone
They denote bore diameter 12/1=.740 12 = .729 13/1 =.719 & so on.
clumber
https://www.vintageguns.co.uk/articles/proof-sizes/ Should give you all that you need. I think the 15/1 would be a poorly stamped 13/1.
jgguinness
Ah thanks guys. Clumber, as you say either that or I may have to finally admit defeat and say I need glasses!!
McSpredder
I think the 15/1 would be a poorly stamped 13/1. .....unless it was nominally a 16-bore...
Gunman
As above .
clumber
.....unless it was nominally a 16-bore...Was assuming that the op was referring to another 12. Out of interest, what would be the advantage of 'over boring' a 16 to this size?
