d foxxer
I was using a 177 raptor but when the bigger ones ran on before dropping dead sometimes down holes or under the workshop out of reach of me and my terriers and as far as I concerned no body no kill so now they get baited into a safe shot/backstop area and are issued a 22lr short ....gratis
ChrisPCarter
Mossberg 500 Hushpower 410. Or any good air rifle will do it.
Rimfireboy
I've been using .25 rws superdomes 31 grains at sub 12 ft lbs. drops them like a stone. Also had good clean kills with bisley magnums in my rapid .22. The big .25's are excellent for rats though, hits them so hard at the relatively short range that I've been shooting them. Shot a good few with .22 CB longs as well this past few months.
manthing
Be prepared for them to dance after a shot, bit like the headless chicken. If I'm baiting and waiting in a lit area, I will use the .22 97k. If I'm seeking them out at night its the .22 ultra and nv which it is most of the time. Keep thinking about a .25. People will say you can rat with a .177 as long as shot placement is good, trouble is rats is quite fidgety and a small pellet to the body of a large rat ain't gonna cut it, whereas a larger pellet will do a lot more damage. This is from personal experience.
