big bad lindz
Following on from a great 6 nations tournament and the sporting banter here on PW I thought I would come away from the 6 Nations post and ask the rugby supporters on PW who do they think will eventually get on the squad sheet. Should be a good read
sako751sg
Not sure and i think this will be an extremely hard selection. The only game England really shone in was against Scotland and Wales who i expected more from were abysmal most of the time. The back line worries me and and although some players showed glimpses there was a lack of consistency overall and hope Gatland doesnt go too Welsh with it. Far from optimistic and think this Lions squad could take a tanking in NZ but hopefully im wrong. Think one of the most consistent was Stuart Hogg who should merit the number 15 sark but thats my lot.
novice cushie shooter
Hope you have a tin hat on dave! Fwiw i agree with most of what you say. I am really intrigued to see who will be captain. Theres a few players who stand out in the games ive seen mainly hogg, joseph, farrell and north. I didnt see any Ireland games hence cant comment on their players. Not sure and i think this will be an extremely hard selection. big bad lindz
I read a recent article that mentioned Gatland may choose a tour team captain but may not always be first name on the test team sheet nor play as the captain. I don't know if Ladlaw is going to be fit again in time but he would also be a good mix in the choice also Rory Best would be a good choice. I think it would need to be someone a bit older with more Lions tour/test match experience than the likes of Farrell. I am still thinking of my team suggestion and will post it sometime. novice cushie shooter
I think he said he wanted hartley as captain....if hes not banned again by the tour. Best is possibly one of the most consistent international players over the last 5 years imo. Laidlaw goosed i think for upto 9 months. Highlandladdie
For what it's worth here's my first draft of my squad. I know there will be some names that folk might disagree with. Here goes 3 full backs Stuart Hogg (Sco) Leigh Halfpenny (Wal) Rob Kearney (Ire) 4 wings Liam Williams (Wal) George North (Wal) Simon Zebo (Ire) Tommy Seymour (Sco) 4 centres Robbie Henshaw (Ire) Alex Dunbar (Sco) Owen Farrell (Eng) Jonathon Joseph (Eng) 2 fly halfs Johnny Sexton (Ire) Finn Russell (Sco) 3 scrum halfs Connor Murray (Ire) Rhys Webb (Wal) Ben Youngs (Eng) 7 back row (flankers & No 8) Justin Tuperic (Wal) Sam Warburton (Wal) Billy Vunipola (Eng) Sean O'Brien (Ire) CJ Stander (Ire) Peter O'Mahony (Ire) Hamish Watson (Sco) 5 second row Jonny Gray (Sco) Alyn Wyn Jones (Wal) Joe Launchbury (Eng) Courteney Lawes (Eng) Mario Itoje (Eng) 3 hookers Rory Best (Ire) Ken Owens (Wal) Dylan Hartley (Eng) 6 props Tadhg Furlong (Ire) Jack McGrath (Ire) Dan Coles (Eng) Mako Vunipola (Eng) Joe Marler (Eng) Todd Francis (Wal)
Highlandladdie
I see based on the stats there is a team of the Championship. 15. Stuart Hogg 14. Kieth Earls 13. Jonathon Davies 12. Owen Farrell 11. Simon Zebo 10. Finn Russell 9. Rhys Webb 1. Jack McGrath 2. Ken Owens 3. Tadhg Furlong 4. Joe Launchbury 5. Courteney Lawes 6. CJ Stander 7. Kevin Gourdon 8. Louis Picamoles So we have 5 Irish, 3 Welsh, 3 English and 2 Scots. For 7 and 8 from the home nations I'd pick Tipuric and Vunipola. We'll be able to see come selection how close it is to the stats!
