Oak Quad Sticks

I made myself a set of oak quad sticks and posted them on here under the craft ection. Since then I've had a couple of people enquire about purchasing a set.

Since then I've refined the design making them even more stable and lighter and they are now at a stage where I'm happy to sell a few sets.

I've initially made 3 sets for purchase, varying in length, the shortest being suitable for people 5'8" to 5'10", the mid size being suitable for people 5'10" to 6' and the largest being suitable for people 6' to 6'2". Any other size can be made to order though! The mid length set weigh 1.1kg making them the same as most composite sticks, with the nicer look and feel of wood.

They are finished with 3 coats of danish oil which give them a very tough durable, water repellent surface.

Whilst they start off quite golden, they do dull down with use!

These first ones are £200+ postage, however due to the time it takes to machine them this is likely to increase to around £230, but I'd like some feedback first!

I use mine every week and love them!

If you have any questions please feel free to ask.

These are all the sets so far. The middle 3 are the ones available, the left hand are mine and the right hand are a set made from idigbo. Whilst very light, I don't think they'll last like oak.

This is a section through one of the legs to show the machining and weight loss.

The sticks are held closed with a strap which then doubles as a restraint to top them opening too far. I have mine on the left hand side so I can hold the rifle with my right and adjust the sticks if required. The 3 sets available don't have this fitted yet as I will fit it depending on your dominant hand.

The loop is now stitched (rather than a cable tie, this was a prototype), and this creates a tag for easy release.

These are lovely! I have a similar pair bought a few years ago but these look to have some improvements to them. Only thing is how do they stop opening fully? Mine have a webbing strap on them, maybe these don't need them.

I was just writing that bit! You beat me to it

My new Mk3 oak quad sticks (aka Wildfowler sticks) arrived yesterday and they are truly a thing of beauty.

The craftsmanship is outstanding, they are surprisingly light and are built to last. I have not used them in anger yet, but a quick trial session in the back garden proved they are as steady as a rock.

As soon as I feel I have become proficient in their use in action (having previously only used tripod sticks) I will add my thoughts to this thread.

Thank you Wildfowler. A job very well done Sir.

Just to add to the above comments I have bought a pair and having used them for a while I really can't fault them. Beautifully made, silent in carriage with the fitted retaining cord and rock steady with plenty of lateral movement available from the front yolk without up ending the sticks, ideal for Stalking and Fox shooting. All in all highly recommended, this is my 4th set of sticks and my 2nd Quad set and these are by far the best.

Your post reminded me that I had not added the promised update.

My first impressions were that the sticks were excellent. Having now used them with various surfaces, situations, calibres and weather conditions - I think I may have underrated them.

Best I have used by far.

Thank you Wildfowler.

Thank you for the very kind and positive feedback gents! It's great to hear that others are using and enjoying the sticks as much as me.

I've been making a few more sets recently, which should be finished by the weekend, so if anybody is interested please let me know.
