Cluson Clu-Briter lamp

Has anyone added a filter to the above lamp? I've bought an Amber one which is supposed to fit over the glass by removing the cover. I've tried all ways to get the front cover off but failed.

Here's a photo of how it looks with the cover off.

I'm sure you unscrew mine. I have the blue one. Was very unimpressed with the red filter I got, barely let any light through. The lamp though is excellent for solo foxing with a shotgun which is what I use it for

Mine is the blue colour one too. I have tried to unscrew the front cover, but it just keeps on turning. I have emailed Cluson Engineering regarding this issue.

I don't like red filters, and prefer amber. I agree about the white light though, very powerful.

No threads under the cover on mine Steve looks like the cover is "pressed" on by a machine hence "forcing"it off ,pain in the bum .As you say the white light is ace the filter,s not so mine,s the amber 1 seems tp take about 50% of the light away.

UPDATE:

The cover does unscrew. I found that I had to turn it anticlockwise a few times, while pulling it until it caught the threads. The colour of the lamp makes no difference.

I agree about the filters reducing the light output. I have a red and amber filter for my Blaserlite, and the amber one lets more light through.

I've just made an IR filter for the above lamp. I had a 3mm piece of IR filter in my shed and I sanded it down (grindstone) to the correct size. I've tried it with my homemade IR spotter and the beam can be seen through it. I'm going to test it up of the farm once evening to see just how far the IR beam reaches.

hello, that sounds interesting steve, i would think if 2 shoot together and 1 holds the lamp with I/R filter, using a good n/v system on the rifle you should get a very clear image.

I use a Pulsar N750A NV scope on my .243 for Fox shooting. It has an added IR torch (T50) for extra IR. In fact, I don't use the onboard IR on the scope. The T50 with 'AS' pil, gives me around 250- 300 yards on a good night, which is more than I need. The IR filter for the Clu-Briter will probably come in handy at some point. My IR spotter also has an IR torch (T38) fitted to it, which will give me around 200+ yards. It will be interesting to see how far the IR 'beam' goes on the Clu-Briter.

UPDATE 2:

I informed Cluson Engineering about the confusion regarding fitting a filter, and how there were no instructions about removing the cover. I suggested that they add them to their website. They replied that they will pass this onto their technical team.

The IR filter was tried last night, in not ideal conditions, but I managed to see the end of the beam out to approx 110 yards. This was tried outside in my back garden. I'm sure it will reach out further in better conditions, and I'll try it again when I'm up on the farm next.
