Contact the Bat Charity ...Bat Association I think it is, they will advise and in fact I believe they do evening instructional walks so you can identify different species.

My wife called me the other week and said she had a bat in the kitchen sink and sure enough there was a pipistrelle. I carefully wrapped it in kitchen paper and took it to one of our stables and safely released it into the rafters.

I have been fat bat watching for years, and my wife is member of the BCT and two local groups. I have seen detectors from under 50 quid up to serious pro kit.

Frankly for simple enthusiast needs loom no further than the Magenta range of products. Pick what suits you.

I recommend nhbs.com for all this sort of kit.

Have fun, and consider joining a local group as yo u can see and learn tons.
