yickdaz
I had a look round last weekend at most of our farms 2 farms still had standing barley believe it or not it had gone over and was wet the grains had started to go soft on the ears and birds were dropping in on them it was to late to set up so had another look today and the birds were flighting really well to one of the fields but we would of dropped a lot in tall barley that hadn't gone over on this particular field, a 20 mile drive to look at the other 2 fields of standing barley birds in the area but not really going on the fields we set up at 2pm after seeing traffic but no real flightline to go at after an hour and half and 4 pigeons and 6 crows down we decided to look elsewhere for tomorrow we found some crows on a stubble late on so had an hour on them from 4pm till just after 5 when they totally dried up picked 14 mixed corvids and 1 pigeon from that field, not a bad afternoon 20 blacks 5 pigeon not all the blacks in the pic we left the others were they were on the first field we shot on, the highlight was seeing the standing barley if it isn;t harvested and its looking likely it won't be it should provide some good winter shooting we shall see
JDog
There are quite a few fields of both wheat and barley in these parts that are still to be cut. As yet they are receiving no attention from pigeons.
pigeon controller
Great find, the only problem if it starts to chit in the ears and they will leave it. Well done with your travels looking for birds and a good result with all the Intel gathered.

The same here,I've a few small fields that are still standing and shot one yesterday afternoon for 107 pigeons it makes it so much easier to decoy birds in a small narrow field, some of the other fields as you say are receiving no attention but they are worth keeping your eye on them as you know thing change quickly in pigeon shooting.
