Smiler23
I have recently purchased the gas card maker from graham deakin to use instead.. Think my gun is .850(so I was told)
lancer425
Some where in the flats there will be some markings will say 21.5 or 22 this gives the closest your bore is to its size in MM. Alan Myers was the Armitalia Luchini importer back then did 4ga singles and double 8s never seen a single 8 but they could be an underbored 4ga which would make them heavily made. I can not think of a better gun to use steel in in 8 bore. I never thought 64 gram would have been the charge weight but that load looks feasible with steel , just watch for pin holing is only word of caution i would offer. Smiler23
Regarding the shot weight, could that be because it's 4" chambers?
lancer425
I do not know i have never seen any steel loads for the 8 those are the first i have seen what you posted, 40grain even of newer A steel batches is not excessive and i imagine it is a lower charge to keep initial breach pressures down. i might be tempted to drop a little shot off it and up the grains of powder say 2oz perhaps but you are loosing pellet count so who ever worked those loads up probably did it for good reason and had tried the other options already i just suggested here. My concern would be pin holing, probably just me being careful over careful perhaps but stopping bore damage before it happens as to be better than trying to sort it out once it has occurred. Smiler23
Totally agree regarding bore damage. I'll give it some thought before trying. May even try and source some copper and give that a whirl. Thanks for input lancer
muncher
Smiler,I had a steel load for the 8 tested with 381 if your interested came well in pressure, problem I had was getting a good rto to help get a good burn on the powder ,but with steel powder you could drop it down a few grains and still be safe . shakin stevens
That would be great muncher, thanks, I use brass cases with mine, so card is siliconed in rather than rtoMight be better in a plastic case mate , brass cases were for black powder, even though used with nitro , they take a bit more to get em moving . moongeese
I agree, keep your brass cases for blackpowder, and use plastic for nitro. Bill

Smiler23
That's my next thing to try, just need the time to get some powder. Myers is my closest place. Heard tpph is good stuff but difficult to source
