deeksofdoom
My German Wirehaired Pointer Bitch is 11 years old I haven't noticed here coming into season in a long time. Could she be barron now. Was thinking of getting another dog to replace my springer bitch, who died a couple of months ago, would it be safe to get a dog at this stage? al4x
I wouldn’t trust nature in this case, two options get the dog and see knowing you have to separate if she comes into season or neuter.
loriusgarrulus
Bitches are not like humans. They don't have a menopause. Their seasons become less noticeable and fertility may drop off as they get older, but they still will come into season with a potential to get pregnant. It is possible to get tablets to stop a season. Also you could have an ovectomy ( removal of just the ovaries) done which is less invasive and a much smaller operation than a full spay. Or just get her spayed which reduces the risk of pyometria which can kill if you don't catch it early enough.
