Matty89
Decided I fancy a pump for when I’m out pigeon shooting as an alternative to my O/U for when weather conditions are poor etc. I had almost decided to get an SXP after several goes with one at the clay grounds. I got an E-Mail from Sportsman GC today with the Weatherby range on offer which makes it quite a cheap gun imo £260 for synthetic or £290 for upland model. I’d be after either the sxp or PA08 in the field style version and the Weatherby wood actually looks well for such a cheap gun and is circa £75-100 cheaper than the sxp currently. I’ve read many reviews both Turkish made and budget so i’m not expecting a Benelli SuperNova but a fairly reliable pump at half the price. my only concern is certain reviews mentioning cycling issues with the PA08, something I’ve never heard people with SXP’s comment on. Anybody in the Uk have a Weatherby PA08 and how has it served them? Honey Monster
I have a PA08 in wood with 26" barrel. Now over 1000 fired not even one problem. I fired 65mm 70mm and 76mm. Very good gun for the money.

arm3000gt
Did you decide what to get. Does it have to be the SXP or Weatherby? If you can hold off a bit longer and increase your budget you can pick up a supernova for £450 second hand. It would probably hold it's value better too. SXP's do come up second hand around the £250 mark occasionally, so might be worth waiting for one to come along.
Matty89
Thanks all, I did read the comments so thanks very much! I shouldered both and they were both nice guns, I went with the SXP in the end with 28 inch barrels it just fits me like a glove I did get synthetic though so I may get the Weatherby in wood as for the current money the Weatherby is a blooming bargain and a lovely gun for the money. Had a good look at the Benelli Pump and semi autos lovely guns and I’ll be adding to my cabinet in a few months as long term keepers after I’ve applied for FAC so I can get bigger capacity versions without modyfying. Honey Monster
Good choice anyway. Both are similar quality/level guns. Just remember that rotating bolt needs more attention/cleaning.

Just remember that rotating bolt needs more attention/cleaning. Yeah i'll keep on top of that. It's a bit of a swine to clean all the old rust protective coating off and get that bolt lubricated. I assume everything is ok to just be oiled no grease required? With my O/U i oil everything and only grease the friction points of things which i clean off and regrets after every outing. I can't really note any friction points on this? And i'll not clean this as regularly as my o/u with exception of the barrel. Reminds me I need to buy a bottle of gun oil, the spray cans make it borderline impossible to not 'over-oil' the thing. kennett
There are a few friction points, I'll get mine out when I remember and have a look where it has rubbed and let you know
