njc110381
I'm looking into getting a .243 for a multi use gun. I want to shoot targets, deer and fox with it (not asking much!). I've spotted the T3 Varmint and really like the look of it. The heavy barrel should be good for the range, and from what I've read it's not too heavy with the synthetic stock being quite light weight. Are these guns any good? I'd be very interested to hear any opinions on it, or something similar in spec and price range.
JohnGalway
Have the T3 Varmint Stainless model in .223. Shooting consistantly under an inch for me now Trigger is very nice, bolt is good, never had any magazine or feed problems. It's heavy enough if you're going to be doing a lot of walking like I do, make ya sleep well though I like it
Oly
Good gun  Try not to get influenced by looks though!
njc110381
Good gun  Try not to get influenced by looks though! I know looks are not the main reason to buy any gun, but it seems to fit the job I want it to do. As long as it's good I'll probably get one! I don't know what to do at the moment, as I'm very new to this sort of thing. It may be best for me to do my DSC1 and have a few stalking days with someone experienced before I get my own rifle. The other option is I get one for targets and get a mentor for the field. Either way, I need a heavy barrel and decent magazine capacity for the range. chrisv
I've had my Varmint Stainless 6.5 x 55 for a month or so now, and I'm really pleased with it. You could never call it a light, stalking rifle, but it's a lot lighter than my Howa Varmint Laminate. It also shoots very well as Fister pointed out in the review of his Remmy, it did ok out to 1000 yards. I did have a problem with the trigger, but that was just a pin coming loose. njc110381
I think all guns suffer with one off faults now and again. I was told to buy a Beretta shotgun because they're bomb proof, and the third time I took it out it jammed shut and wouldn't fire the second barrel! You can imagine how much that scared me - a new guy on sunday afternoon, holding a loaded 12g miles from anywhere with a dodgy trigger/selector mechanism and unable to make it safe. After belting it about a bit I managed to knock the sears so it fired without the trigger, but it took a while! Most of the opinions I've been told are good, apart from the stock being a bit cheap looking. As Oly said, looks come second to accuracy and comfort
tikkamark
the bolt goes through the action like silk and has one of the most crisp triggers you will ever come across no creep or drag just quality

jcbruno
you want a anchutz shooting rimfire for less buy a CZ Good one! well mate i have both and the differece is minimal most guns today will shoot better than the rifleman behind the rifle the fit and finnish of a anchutz is undoubtedly better but can the average man shoot it any better than a CZ free hand well i have found this not to be the case i will admit out of the box the anchutz has a crisper trigger belive it or not some people perfer the CZ trigger every shooter is difernt and recently in north american small bore competitions there has been first prizes handed out to cz shooters who were up against anchuts, walther etc this is just my opinion and from things i have witnessed i consider my self a pretty experienced rifleman got my first rifle on the farm at the age of
Oly
...finnish of a anchutz is undoubtedly better but can the average man shoot it any better than a CZ free hand well i have found this not to be the case i will admit out of the box the anchutz has a crisper trigger ... recently in north american small bore competitions there has been first prizes handed out to cz shooters who were up against anchuts, walther etc Nobody over here seriously shoots CZs in competitions. I agree though, for the 'average' man shooting freehand both rifles will out perform the shooter. What I would say though is that the person who seeks an Anschutz isn't normally the 'average' shooter...they're after excellence, and they already know that they can outperform a CZ (although not perhaps freehand at distance)...I know I can. Peter_HMR
Snob CZ are alot of gun for the money and the only thing a anschutz really has over it is the trigger only someone benchresting will notice a difference in accuracy which will only matter to someone shooting copetitvely. CZ £280 and anschutz are something like £700?? You give me 700 id spend 280 on the cz give it to a gunsmith and for the rest of the cash he'd make it better than any anschutz
jcbruno
well we all can agree the CZ is a fantastic gun for the money i am putting a timney triger and peep sights on mine and am looking forward to my end product i actualy perfer the hold and fit of my CZ to my anchutz but like them both very much anyway neil sorry to hijack your topic back to the tikka t3 i just wanted to say out of the box there is very littl one has to do to make them shoot well just decent ammo and optics and you will have a very capable rifle, i just wanted to say for deer syalking you might find the heavy barrel a little cumbersome when you come out here for a hunt with me the thick bush is some times very hindering especially when climbing hills and mountains if you have a proper sling and a bipod plus lots of practice you will be able to make that one shot one kill and a 243 has little recoil and so the heavy barrel isnt in my opinion the best all around hunting rifle but will admitt some people do, just remember neil shoot top of front shoulders or mid hight just behind the front legs and if your close and its a doe nothing wrong with a head shot this is kind of the reason i like standar barrels you have quicker reaction time for when the deer suprizes you practice quick instinctive shooting lots of time on the rimfire range helps alot cheers neil and hope to see you out here soon
