2 years ago I put one of my shotguns into storage and collected it last may, paid the fees etc, when I took the gun in my rfd gave me a notice to send into the police, so I sent that in now when I collected it they said they would tell the police and no need for me to do anything, I've just sent my renewal forms in and it sprung to mind I never mentioned this to the police as he said he would and I need not worry, since I got the gun back I've moved house and had new cabinet checked etc when officer came to check he also checked the guns and that particular gun was on the file as mine and he checked serial numbers etc said all good new ticket given, does that mean it's all above board and ok? Or did i need to tell them myself? This isn't a new ticket by the way the gun has been on my ticket for the last 12 years! Thanks

I don' agree but am cautious. If the gun is not in your possession then I would tell the police. I moved England Scotland and left all my guns with my rfd until I had security in place. Police Scotland wanted to  be told when I moved them up and back into my possession. I didn't look into the law just felt I could not be criicised for saying what I had done.

So would you inform the police if you dropped your gun at the RFD for a day for him to fit a buttpad? Or a week?

The gun is still on the OP's ticket and on the offchance the police wanted to check his gun cabinet, he had a receipt to show where it was.

IMO you can overthink things and create unnecessary paperwork. :good:

So legally me not notifying the police of it being stored there, even though it was for a good while!, won't affect the renewal of the certificate as it's not necessary?

Correct.

Storage is the sole responsibility of the certificate holder, as clearly detailed in the conditions on your SGC.
