Greetings from across the pond

Recommended Posts

Some very good reading here, not sure I'll be much of a contributor, but I will when I can. I am a 40 year old retired Air Force Master Sergeant, currently live and hunt in New Mexico. I look forward to bird season, and this year I have the added bonus of hunting deer and elk with traditional archery gear. Doves quail, and ducks are what I hunt here, I really miss hunting Hungarian partridge, pheasant, and grouse. Thank you for such a wonderful site.

I'm not sure about the orange and camo myself, I mostly bowhunt for big game, and so I do not wear orange. When bird hunting with friends or family, I will usually wear an orange cap, but no camo, for waterfowl, or wildfowl as it is also known, it is 100% camo. I do some rifle hunting, but I usually wear an orange vest, and no camo. I shoot a variety of calibers, from 45/70, to 22-250. I do my own reloading(except for shotshells, I am not set up for this, and shells are still relatively inexpensive), and I cast bullets for some of the rifles and handguns I shoot. I reload for 300 Winchester Magnum, 30'06 Springfield, 270 Winchester, 22-250, 45/70, 32-20, 357 Magnum, 44 Magnum, 45 ACP, and 45 Colt, I cast bullets for the 32-20, 357 Magnum, 44 Mag, 45 ACP, 45 Colt, and the 45/70. As you can see I really enjoy shooting, and since turning 40 and retiring from the Air Force, I have become obsessed with shooting my shotgun, I am trying to return to trap and skeet, and my passion for birds grows with every post I read here and on our Upland Journal. Thank you so much for the warm welcome, hope the shooting sports around the world continue, and that we may continue to enjoy the fellowship of the hunt.

I am getting lost with the influx. We should set up an American section. Their stuff is much more interesting - their photos, hand guns, big calibres and of course those orange vests.

Welcome one and all.

Pleas don't create an American section. We have similar forums here and anyone with similar interests are welcome! As for out stuff being more interesting, well, I don't know. I find your shotguns and some of the old rifles extremely interesting. I just wish I could afford one or two of those fine old pieces.

Yes, as I understand it we are not as limited or restricted as to what we can own. I have a very large safe and still cannot get all my collection or rather accumulation in it. In rifles I like to play with almost anything, from 22 hornet to the 458 Win Mag, including a few old black powder cartridges. Last year by using what we call a c&r (curio & relic) license, I got involved with an internet forum targeted toward the Swiss rifles and imported and had delivered directly to my door a 1911 Schmidt Rubin rifle chambered for the 7.5x55 Swiss cartridge, similar to the 7.62 nato (.308 Win). I have also taken classes and have a permit to carry a concealed handgun, which I rarely carry, but can do so in most but not all states.

Again your shotguns have set the standard for fine sporting arms. We may have created more efficient killing machines, pumps and semi auto's, but nothing looks, feels and handles like one of your fine game guns.
