Gun Choice

Hi All,

Am in the market for a new shotgun and having difficulty making the choice. Obviouslly a miriad of choices out there, anyone with an opinion on the Bettinsoli range, the Beretta silver pigeon (what one?) the Lincoln jubilee prestige and the Ceasar Guerini range, A broad range i appreciate, i am looking for an all purpose for clays and game and would then leave the pigeon shooting to the trusty AYA Yeoman M/C.

Any thoughts and ideas would be much appreciated.

Get yerself a semi-auto: Make sure its 3" magnum proof and after you get used to it you'll leave all else in your cupboard.

Up side is thats its got loads of punch and versatility, light weight when walking about loads, and fast to reload on multiple pigeon landings and bunnies

Downside: You'll never be allowed into a game shoot unless you is a beater. They are a pig to clean and can be fussy on cartrigdes.

Berretta is a good choice as you know you can always sell them on at the same price and is applicable to semi's or o/u's etc

Keith,

Your best bet is to get around the gunshops and try as many guns as possible. If you have a clay ground go there and shoot as many guns as

possible. That way you will see what you like, what fits you, and will create your own shortlist. Then it's down to your personal preference.

I wouldn't bother with a semi-auto if you want an all rounder, it will be frownd upon, and probably not allowed on game shoots, and does not give you

as much flexibility at clay shooting. i.e. Diffferent chokes if needed.

If you want to go the semi auto route, get an escort. Cheap as chips and very reliable, will give you a decent insight into semi auto territory, then upgrade later if you want to, and you wont care if you dent or scratch it.

I personally like the look and feel of the Silver Pigeon 2 sporting, would be my first choice any day, such a classy gun.

Consider the Lanber deluxe sporter and the Bettinsoli Diamondline Sporter both cracking IMO

For an all purpose gun for game and clays you will not go far wrong with a Silver Pigeon sporter. If it is mainly for clays go for the sporter, if for game, the game model is lighter to carry about. An OU will be your best bet as semis are not accepted on gameshoots.

But the most important thing is to try out as many as possible.

if its an o/u you are after I can highly recommend the Silver Pigeon 3. Excellent gun that will last a lifetime and hold it value very well.

If you are considering a semi auto then look no further than the Benelli range. Superb guns, easily maintained. No gas ports so cleaning is a doddle, virtually nothing to go wrong.

Beretta semis are also excellent.

See if you can try a few guns even if its just to check fit in the shop before you make your mind up.

Try mounting a few guns before buying, I shot a Beretta 687 which is virtually identical to a silver pigeon for 7 months but I was having problems with my left eye been drawn to the left side of the barell, while looking at guns I mounted just about evrything in 2 shops and the moment I picked up a Miroku I knew that I needed a gun with a mid bead, I kept trying different guns and coming pack to Brownings/Mirokus and it was self evident that the Miroku suits me better and has improved my shooting no ends, dont rush into buying a gun because everyone says it is a good gun, it may suit them but not you.

Incidentally I tested a mates Beretta DT10, lovely made gun but I just could not shoot it and that gun cost over 3 times more than my Miroku.

mirokudo a gun called the m70 universal it is basically a very good compromise between a sporter and a game gun. in my opinion i would go for a browning525/ 425 a silver pigeon or a miroku mk60/70/38 all great guns and they will last forever. you can spend more money but you wont get more gun for it unless you have silly money for perrazis adn handmade jobbies.

Well depends on what you want todo i guess.

I have a Berretta SP3 (£1200) for clays and for beaters day and a SA Escort (Camo)(£350) for Pigeon/rough shooting.

Thought the SP was far to expensive to take out Field shooting :good:

Cheers and good luck
