lopylui
Got a small compressor given to me due to it only turning 1/3 of the way round on the output shaft, i have now freed it up and it will do a full rotation with ease by hand, now the problem is i wont turn under its own power; it just trips the beraker at the fuse board... Has anyone got some wisdom for me

Local lad
Hi, not sure what kind/size the breaker is but its probably tripping either because the compressor starting load is too high or you have a earth on the compressor. rovercoupe
If it has seized then the motor may have overloaded and shorted out one or all of the windings basically frying the wire. A multimeter over the coils on resistance should tell if its dead or not. If the wire is shorted then the only cure is a rewind. *i know very little about motors but thats what I think happens when they go a bit doohickey. If the motors shanked and want rid I am after a compressor without motor for a project......
Mighty Ruler
Is that capacitor ok? The capacitor gives it a boost to get it running from standstill. What trips out, an overload trip or the main earth leakage trip?
lopylui
Overload i belive, just cuts power to all sockets on that circuit
vmaxphil
Most likely the windings are shorted if it's blowing a 30a trip, if it's the rcd tripping it could be the capacitor
