GMP SGC grant time

Recommended Posts

Hi, I am hoping to get some insight from those that have recently endured this process.

BASC figures (2017) suggest around 10-11 weeks as do some older online accounts, I have also asked a couple friends they also said around 11 weeks. However having contacted the police I was told the wait period is now operating at a an absolute MINIMUM of 16 Weeks.

Is this really the case? Has the wait time increased this steeply over the last year or so? Or are the police simply offering an inflated figure to avoid criticism if the process takes longer than expected?

Thanks for any insight you guys can provide.

GMP used to be the fastest in the country. Following a review of procedures, their turnaround time increased fairly dramatically. 16 weeks still isn't bad compared to other forces.

GMP Firearms are very honest, reasonable and helpful people.

Sounds like the people who did the review need sacking and let them go back to the old system.

I think that is inaccurate. The review - from memory - was because insufficiently thorough checks were employed, in order to expedite applications.

Do you know of any cross force work by the different forces to advise / discuss process. I know there was at some point a national working group, but don't know if these things exist.

I recall some discussion on here of many chief police officers meeting to discuss, and the consensus from their meetings was that the majority of them wanted to ban firearms outright.
