The road through Hell.

I dropped my daughter off at Gatwick Airport late this afternoon, and as we drove along the M25, I could see the traffic in the opposite lanes (my way home), was really building up and slowing down.

So, I made the masterly decision to leave Gatwick and turn south on the M23 towards Brighton, turn on to the picturesque A27 and A259 and wend my way home, avoiding all that stressful motorway rush hour.

3 hours 10 minutes and 98 miles later, I got home.

What a nightmare the A27 is , roadworks, stupid traffic lights, idiots parked on the side of the road making it one lane, caravans, broken down vehicles, there was everything there this evening.

Next time she catches the train.

All of Britains road networks are a total Joke. Too many vehicles and too little investment over the last 50 years. Highways Authorities up and down the country are completely inept and the privatised utility companies are even worse.

We in Glos are now suffering the effects of their ineptitude due to lack of investment in favour of their shareholders dividends each year.

I will reconnoitre the A22 as a future option, thanks for the tip.

I very nearly left my "carbon footprint" on a few farmers fields, out of frustration and seeking an alternative route.

LB, my daughter can catch a train from Westenhanger through to Gatwick with two quick changes, takes 80 minutes and costs less than £20.

Thats got to be better than me trundling round the M25. :good:
