Paul in North Lincs.
if you want a tough hard dog then a patterdale or patterdale cross, out of Nuttalls lines is what you want......... Be carefull though as the rules have changed signicantly regarding the use of terriers for fox control..............you can olny hunt them below ground if they are harming game birds...............and once held at bay.....the dog owner must dig down and dipsatch the fox with a gun.......... I know I've posted this picuture of 'our' Polly a few times before...............but I just loves her.......aaaaaaarrrrrrhhhhh shes so cute  :o :o :( :(

Cranfield
I would strongly recommend you find out exactly what you can and can't do and where you can do it. Then learn properly how to do what you can do, before going any further.

jonevo
hello could anyone give me on what breed of terrier is best for hunting eg. foxing and rabbits i have a jack russel but he only likes playing (ball) and i would like something with a bit more killer instinct Ive been working teriers for the last 25 years, the jack russell you have will do the job, but it needs some experience, you are better going out with someone who's dog, will work, fox, rabbit, the last thing you want is a dog that goes to ground for ages.and then you have to start digging (bad idea) The russell you have, needs a little bit of time putting into it and it will be fine. when or if you decide to get another dog, becareful as your old dog will become domain dominant and will be very jealous that a new dog is on its patch,if you get a patterdale x lakeland or border lakeland, type ,your russell may not last very long and your vet will be a very wealthy man. keep your russell, put a bit of time into it and it will be just fine

codling99
if ya dogs 10 years old ,ya wanna forget foxes mate. terriers will do foxes if they from the right backround, its all in the breeding imo.my pair of russels have never seen foxes,do rabbits and rats all day.some of my mates got russels ,lakelands and black dogs, and they have killed foxes aground on their own before they can dig down .before the ban i must add
