steve b
I would only cut the skirting if you are absolutely sure that the safe wont be moved. I haave my safe supported on some tongue and groove loft boards cut smaller than the base of the cabinet. It then sits quite happily and securely (And it obviously holds the safe in position for fixing) Hope this helps avoid mauling the skirting. :

Devilishdave
If it is a permanent fit cut the skirting. I know I will not stay in my house for more than 3 years so I supported the cabnet on tob of a few books to bring it just above the height of the skirting then mounted it to the wall. The FLO had no problems with that at all. Dave
BSA Shaun
Yep, didn't cut the skirting in my house either, just sat the cabinet on house bricks to raise ita bove the level, then rawl bolted it to the wall. All passed, all good

JDFrain
you could raise it above the skirting like the lads have said or cut a peice of marine plywood the same size as the cabinet as not to leave any lever points for crow bars (god forbid) also depending on the the wall type you are fixing to if it is a good quality brick wall you are fixing to then use a large rawl bolt the type you put in position then tighten the nut down to expand the bolt. Alternatively if you are fixing to a wall of block work construction with a plaster board finish i would reccomend using a chemical fixing, very easy to use and also super strong. you can use these on any walls and purchase them from screwfix. john
tikkamark
If you got a sheet of ply the same size as the back of the gunsafe and the same thickness as the skirting you wont need to go chopping at the sqirting and will still be able to fix to the floor and the wall which is the strongest possible way of doing it

roadkill
mine is high above the skirting board holded up with 2x2 wood so i have storage under it and its bolted tight to the wall in the corner
