Here are some pics of us releasing 1000 poults to our newly built pen. The guy in the middle of the pics with the shorts and blue top is my boss, which is handy when it comes to time off for shooting and use of the twin cab pickup for lamping/wildfowling etc.

Thought I took more pics than this but you know what its like, all hands to the pump to ensure minimum stress to the birds. I will take some more in a week or two's time so you can see the pen and some of the countryside and how the birds are getting on.

Yeah it doesn't really show the full extent of the pen, which i'll try and do next time I am over there. It really is a good site, nice semi mature tree plantation with grassy areas, brambles, brashings, two large dusting shelters. To give you an idea of size we have 9 re-entry holes (Fox grids/pop holes) and these are spaced approx 50m apart so the pheasant has no further than 25m to run along the perimeter to get to safety if Mr Charles Reynard happens along.

We have 2No 1000 litre tanks for the water and 6No plastic automatic suspension drinking bells, 4 Nr 45 litre feed drums and about 5 or 6 smaller top hat feeders in there. 26 large feeders leading to the cover/drives as well as in the cover drives with smaller feeders interspersed throughout the hedges/covers.

We are using 5 gallon plastic barrels cut in half for drinkers in the cover/drives and have dusting shelters in other drives as well.

Really looking forward to the season. Oh by the way the poults are 8 weeks old and were clipped, de-bitted and wormed before delivery. By my reckoning they will be 20.5 weeks old on the first shoot day. Most of the cock poults have tails already and I have to say the quality of the birds was good as can be seen by the photos. For the love of me I cannot remember the strain of the birds, but I don't really care as long as we get some good sporting shots at them during the course of the season.

The other good thing is that we have no end of wild chick broods all over the estate of both pheasant and Partridge. Apparently the estate owner tells me that the partridge count for this year was the highest for the last ten and that is born out by the amount of young birds we have seen about on the harvested fields and hedge rows. All we have to do is blank the fields in right to ensure we get a few over the guns.

getting the birds late has been a real bonus this year with the bad weather, couple that with a late harvest what you don't want is lots of young birds wondering into crops that are about to be cut and getting lost or combined. Pen looks great though just the right mix of cover and plenty of light areas

I used to fish Three rivers, the Yare, Hickling and Eels foot broad along with Lady/Lily broad and Fritton Decoy. The pits alongside the A143 or is it A134?!?!?! Biggest Pike to date 21lb 5oz from Three rivers, Biggest English Carp to date 28lb 11oz Mirror (followed with a 28lb Mirror and 26lb 4oz Common over 36 hours on a syndicate water). Biggest carp ever caught from France 32lb Mirror.

Maybe I can give you a guided day out :P:lol::lol:

Look foward to seeing you tomorrow night.

Mungler,

Yes and yes. Leave a day at end of Jan free for Keepers day. MC will be there as well I hope. I'll confirm the day when I am at work and can look at my outlook calendar. All I can remeber is that I made sure the day was before the end of the woodcock season (Different to pheasant according to my BASC book), as we have alot of woodcock on the estate in four drives. This would make up for my rather belated round of clays I promised, although it will be Cock's only and heavy (and I do mean HEAVY) fines for any Hen pheasant shot.

Markio,

Yes and what PM?!?!?!? I didn't get one. But you know if you want to come along on a saturday I am sure you can cadge a lift with MC if he doesn't mind and then you can see how truely appalling I shoot at not just clays. Keepers day might be a possibility if you do every saturday as myself and the other teo Syndicate commitee members have already agreed Keepers day for those who come regularly, but I'll see if I can swing it mate.

FB111 and FG.22, meeting arranged for the next couple of weeks to sort out situation discussed, you also will be coming once I have dealt with it.

Alex

Once I have sorted out the little problem, lots of walking involved for you FB111, if I have to walk the beet on your shoot

To be honest there is only two bits that I can think of that are long walks, but if we don't do it right we are going to miss out on the partridge that are there.
