Gonna Shoot a Wabbit
Hi all. Dead eye duck and i were out again today for a couple of hours this afternoon. A good wind was blowing from right to left. The sun was shining so the plot was to replace the decoys with real birds as we shot them, the sun was making the plastic deeks glint in the sun i suppose we will have to invest in some flock covered decoys before too long but anyway. I had the hide built and the decoys out as D.E.D strolls up at 1.30pm just in time to avoid doing any work and to start shooting (HHHMMM!!!! a less cynical man would have believed his apologies but not me ). So your humble scribe was first into the fray with a neatly killed bird at 25yds crossing left to right ALL IS STILL WELL WITH THE WORLD Mr quackers is up next and misses in good style with the first shot and kills cleanly with 2nd. What followed for the next couple of hours was by our standards a very well mannered and polite afternoon with the pair of us hitting most of what we aimed at and missing one or two that shouldn't have got away. Of course me being the gentlemanly sporting shot i am i gave D.E.D the majority of the shooting and even then he still attempted to poach one of my birds as the green eyed monster set in. Good job i am insensitive!!!! one could upset by behaviour like that after all one doesn't poach another guns birds does one for heavens sake we must have some etiquette in the hide We couldn't get under the flightline properly as it went perilouly close to a couple of houses 100yds away and while no shot was lofted in that direction to get under the flightline would have meant shooting within 100yds of said houses no doubt about it with D.E.D unleashing cannonades to rival waterloo the natives would soon have got restless to say the least . A real shame though as perhaps 50 birds went past the corner of the wood but better to be safe than sorry. Anyway after a very pleasant afternoon we called a halt at 4pm and D.E.D announces must dash as i am off dancing this evening. And with that off he went leaving behind his carpet of emptied cartridge cases for yours truly to sort out, the deeks and slain to be gathered by yours truly as his realtree clad back disappeared into the sunset with shoulders rolling as he giggled all the way home i was left to reflect on the conduct of my fellow gun!!!!!! W*NKER!!! HA HA!! In his rush to get home to appease the fair lady of his house he left behind his cartridge bag....... Was strongly tempted to let dog make an addition to his bag but decided not to insult dog by asking her to go to the loo in such an unsavoury place and in such an unworthy recepticle. After all it looks like it has been rolled in it anyway And that was it. a Very pleasant couple of hours, 31 birds in the bag including a few ferals and off to check the fenn traps before heading for home. Dead-Eyed Duck
Total untruths as usual. It was obvious from the start that you had pitched the hide in the wrong place, and you were too bone idle to move it as it would have meant waking up your sleeping mutt. As for me leaving all the hard work to you - well, what's the fee for trying to get you to shoot straight? Some folks have no respect for us elders and more experienced. That reminds me - lessons in the waltz, quick-step and cha cha don't come cheap. You need some lessons in footwork as all the rabbits for miles disappear when you come stomping along  Mentor
